Question oil low

Hello, Checked the oil today and had to add again. I have added almost a quart since the first change. Car has about 3600 miles. Do you guys remember having to add during the first few thousand miles? Am using the recommended 5w30. Thanks

When are you checking the oil? WRX dipsticks are NOTORIOUS for being very finnicky as far as oil level reporting. Temperature, time since last run, incline/grade of driveway all make gauging EXACT oil level VERY difficult.

How many times have you added oil? And when did you check the stick? Always at cold? Always after a hard run, after a long run? It all depends when you check the oil. I had no problem with my oil so far. Did my first change using regular Castrol 10w30 dino oil at 3k miles and then went synth Mobil 1 10w30 at 6k. No problems so far.

A while back I noticed some oil-smelling smoke coming from my downpipe, and I checked the oil after the car had been sitting for about 5 minutes. I was a quart low. I quickly filled it back up, and changed the oil (I was due and I had mixed oil types for the "emergency") and have never had low oil again. When I changed the oil I also changed the filter brand (Fram to Napa Gold). I'm not saying there is a direct correlation, but it's something to think about.

Check your oil filter to see if there is any residue on it. If there is, you probably have a leaky filter.

Another thought is to use OEM or Purolator brand filters only as well...

Are the Napa brand filters rebadged purolaters, or are they Wix? I can't remember.

Hey guys. Definately not leaking and bought a decent supply of the Subie purolator filters. So it is using the oil not leaking no smoke or anything. Oh well a whole bunch of people clicked on the question so probably not the only one with evaporating oil. Thanks.

just checking but did you change the crush washer too? you probably checked to make sure it wasn't leaking from the drain plug but just making sure. i had to retighten mine after i changed my oil. it was dripping alittle since i reused the washer. (was too lazy to get a new one)

Were are you guys getting your oil filters? At the dealer or is there other sources (i.e. cheaper) out there for Purolaters?
