Welcome to the Forester family and nice find ! If you haven't already, go check out Forester.org.
It sounds like the dreaded headgasket issue. You'll still come out ahead with the repair bill.
If you plan on lowering it and save money, try the route I went, '02 WRX wagon oem suspension. Direct swap. Some other Subaru suspensions aren't. The tophats are different.
Aftermarket parts are a bit hard to come by but they're there and some off the GC and GD work on the Forester.
Good luck and keep us up to date!

05 RS should have an EJ253 which is SOHC and DBW, won't be a direct swap.

On another note looks like another person joining the forester crowd, I have a 99 foz for my project (which is an ej253 btw).

Infamous EJ25D hg issues, easy fix. However, lucky deal for you.

Perhaps that's what's causing the overheating. The fan code is something in the cooling system that is disagreeing with the ECU. Check from the fans (driver's side especially)and work your way to the ECU, checking fuses and relays in between.

Ok well looked at it more it starts to get hot and the coolant over flow tank starts to bubble and I have condensation in the exhaust but no fluids mixing I'm pretty sure its the head gasket
