Need your opinion

Hey all,

There is guy here that has an 03 WRX. He wants to convert to an STi. He has a complete black leather interior...front buckets, rear, and all door panels in leather. He wants the orig STi interior. My question is...would you swap out??

If all the stuff is good quality and comparable wear to your interior then I would consider it.

Those STi seats are sore on the buttocks...but those leather ones won't give your buttocks much grip in the twisties.

Aren't the seats different than yours? I think the 02-03 WRX seats are better they are more narrow. I swapped with somebody with a 04 WRX so I know have all black interior I like it much better we even swapped carpet.

the 02-03 seats are more comfortable than the 04 in my opinion (drove my friends 02 for a month) however i would go for the STi seats, i think the blue suede looks good, im redoing my wrx seats in the same material but in red.

the 02/03 seats are poofy(and comfortable!). i swapped out my interior, and i must say that i never regretted it. just make sure that if you do get the carpet too. i was a fan of the stock STi interior for like 2 months... seats just not supportive enough. i think black leather seats in an STi would be pimp- i'd probably embroider STi into them though.

I like the feel of the WRX seats better than the STIs. Just make sure you're getting an even trade

I traded my interior seats, door cards, and carpet for 04 WRX interior, cash and DrVortex's old Blitz LM intake and I like the black much better. Plus like I said if it is a 03 WRX the seats aren't even the same seats. So my $.02 would be find somebody with a 04-05 WRX and swap with them.

going 02/03 would be out of character especially if its leather. if you are not much into the performance aspect in terms of seats the 02/03 seats are much more comfy IMO. the 04/05 wrx are somewhat softer than the STi seats... but still kinda "un-ergonomic".

since you are kinda "bling" i say go for it. it would be a nice touch along with your interior lighting... maybe the 2 of you could come to an agreement... like maybe a trial period. who knows maybe both of you may not like it after a couple of days.

If you really want to drive hard, don't swap them because every single turn you will be sliding out of your seat. Also if you ever wear shorts and its hot out your legs may stick to the leather. I would never do it. I love my interior. I just want better front seats. I am picking my 03 WRX seats for my RS.

well it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a performance seat then I would stick with the US STI seats. If you want a better holding seat but with the same performance you could go with the JDM STI seats which have more support where our STI seats lack. You will however be giving up the airbags if you go with JDM.

The 02-03 WRX seats are great and they are very similar to the V7 STI seats (just different color) and more supportive.

I would say if you do NOT plan to drive your car hard at all or even get on it even just alittle bit then I'd say swap. but before you swap find out what type of leather seat covers his seats are wrapped in. If it's katzkin http://www.katzkin.com/ then that is some good leather. If it's some other off name or ebay **** then I'd say no.

Leather will also as stated before not allow you to be cushioned by the seat and you'll slip straight out of your seat on any hard cornering. When it's sunny out and since it's BLACK LEATHER it will soat in all that heat and will cause your legs and arms (if your wearing shorts and short sleeve shirt) to get burned.

Bottom line is that you bought an STI because it's an STI. If it didn't come with a certain type of seat it was for good reason.

Make your decision based upon what you like. PRO's and CONS.

Jon

Jon, '05 seats are the same thing as the JDM ones are. '04 are the only ones that are different. 02-03 WRX seats are nothing like the V7 seats. The V7 seat looks almost the same as the '05 STi seats.

so the 05's do not have airbags in them? hmmmmmmm

Which V7 seats did you see? The ones that I saw looked exactly like mine. but with more support for the sides of your body and for your legs.

I know that you can get the other type (04-05 style) as an option but they didn't come in them stock.

I said almost, visually and fit wise they are the same. Airbags make no difference in how they hold you. Here are V7 seats:

As you can see they are like the '05 seats, and nothing like the 02/03 wrx seats. The 04+ seats are the same thing they just have a different cover on them. I can't verify weather the JDM seats have SRS in Japan. It is illegal to mail air bags because they are explosive devices. Yes lots of people do it, but it is illegal.
