Need some help with Rims and tires!

I just went to the shop to look into what I can get for rims. I was interested in some Tenzo's but the guy told me the offset was too much. I now know what all the numbers on the tires mean, but I am still confused why a shorter tire would be a problem. Anyway, what I'm asking is what size is the right one for 17's. (and maybe what brands) I know OZ, Prodrive, Axis, and Volk. I'm looking for something more affordable in a Gun metal grey. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm posting here in Hawaii, cause you guys actually respond, plus.... I kinda miss it there. In some weird sadistic way.
Holla back please.

you want a rim that at least has a +48mm Offset to 53 or so.
Most rims you will find for cheap $$ that fit will be a +48mm offset.
Rota's are good rims, and cheap too!!
Go to www.revolutionsmotorsports.com to check out a selection on the Rota's. They have goos prices and service.
... oh, and you don't miss Hawaii, ... really.

Did anyone catch the fact that this guy is from Cali, not that that mean we shouldn't help him. I still get a kick out of the fact that people from other forums come in here to ask questions (unless he was lost).

just b/c you type slow, and think slow, and it takes you the same amount of time to reply to 3 threads as it does for one of us to reply to 10+ threads, ... doesn't mean we're post whoring.

Thanks for the response.
I just got back from a Subaru only performance shop called SXPI. I ordered the 17" Rota Sub Zeros in Gun Metal Grey with Yokohoma 215/45/17 tires (the all weather ones) for $1080.00 Did I get ripped?
And yes, I once traveled the Highways of Hawaii in my happy little car. That's why I figured I'd have better luck getting a response. You guys were very friendly towards me on the open track day. I just wished I'd gotten together more often. C'est la vie.
Congrats Jason, on your "rex" being the first 12 second WRX on the island. You should write up a sponsorship letter. One of the guys at the shop is getting sponsored, and he's barely done anything to his car. Mostly cosmetics.
BTW, (knock on wood) no problems as of yet with regard to my windows.
Peace.
