Exclamation Need some advice in Oahu

Hey Hawaii subie people. I have a friend that lives on Oahu and just got some rod knock. The dealer is telling her its gonna be $11-13k to rebuild the motor... Anyone know of any reputable shops on the island? Or any other options?
Here in the bay area a rebuild is typically $6k or so...

Car Info: 1996-97 Subaru Legacy, outback, impreza wagon ?!
Bump... I need a head gasket and a mechanic that's worth a damn!

Really tho, who can do a rebuild/swap on a '97 2.5L for unrealistically cheap.... Or raise your hand if you work on your own car cause seems like everyone with a subaru just has money to dick around with, throws it at speed shops and never looks under the hood. If I had 6K id drive a DSM talon and not look back. $13,000 is insanity!
