Fitment. Be sure the seller knows what specific model it is for and the fitment is correct. If they don't know then you will have to figure out which your offset and lug pattern. Additional to what johndabrit said, you also want to get your wheels+tires as closest to normal as your stock diameter to keep your speedometer accurate.
If you want us to help you with this, then please post up specifics as brand, model, or type of what you're looking for. Otherwise, we'll just think you have no idea what to look for and start with the very very basics. It's kind of like going into a computer store telling the salesman I want a computer without telling them what you will use it for(besides the obvious
).
If all else fails or you don't want to do research, I suggest going to wheeldude.com who is also a sponsor on this forum. Contacting him(subydude) and he can get you packages of wheels and tires of the correct type.

If you're buying from another member...you want anything that fits on a 02 and up WRX or a 04 only STi.
5 x 100 bolt pattern.
Offset around +35 to +45 (I think someone correct if wrong).
Most WRX can handle 17 x 8 or 17 x 9 if you have the right offset and clearance. Safe bet is 17 x 8 for a sedan with a offset of +35.
245 40 17 is my minimum starting point for tire size.
