my car got messed-up this morning
i hit a uncovered storm drain h1 east bound before aiea exit, i think more than 20 cars hit the same one. and its on tv news. i got my front passenger tire & rim broke, the cop said i can claim it on my insurance, and the insurance will go after city and county. but when i call aig they said i have to pay my deductable $500 they will give it back after they got the money from the city and county.

^^^yeah def gonna be more than $500. how's your tire treadwear? if your tires are pretty worn you could try and argue a new set out of them. iirc the treadwear is supposed to be no more than 1/4" of circumference as a consequence of AWD. This translates to a bit over 1/32" in tread depth. so if your tires are pretty worn see if your insurance will replace them since you don't want to damage your diffs. just an idea. GL

Sorry to hear about the accident. I saw you this morning too. I was driving the WRB wagon and was taking my son to school.
Yeah, it will definitely be higher than your deductible. (1) BBS wheel is like $700 and the Bridgestone tire is like another $175. The only unfortunate part is that AIG will probably make you pay a "betterment" when replacing the tire. A betterment is when they replace a part with something that is in better condition than the one that you previously had. AIG is one of the ONLY insurance companies that really enforce this. I'm sure the appraiser will also include a 4 wheel alignment also, but if not, be sure to insist on getting one done. I'll pm you my phone number if you've got any other questions.

Make sure the appraiser/body shop check the entire suspension for damage.
Anything nasty enough to break a rim could easily break the various links, bolts, bushings, etc. of the suspension.
But yeah, in the end the city should DEFINITELY pay for that damage if it is found that they forgot to replace the manhole cover or had a crappy manhole cover in there (ask Josh and Ty).
