Convertible rumours????

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/30/r...-in-the-works/

... Now, the notion of a convertible Celica really shouldn't shock anyone. However, what should shock you (at least a little) is the possibility of convertible Subaru. Because, besides a few one-offs and at least one was-never-going-to-see-the-light-of-day concept, Subaru has never built a convertible. And of course, this means that the very real possibility of an all-wheel drive, 300+ horsepower, 300+ lb-ft. of torque, six-speed manual Subaru roadster exists....

From what I've read the C-45 isn't the name of the Boxer motor. It's actually probably going to be an engine that BOTH Subaru and Toyota cross engineered. It seems like the name is D-4S which is the type of direct injection that is found in the IS350/IS-F but in a 4cyl format. Weird but this does mean that this engine is promising because it MIGHT make a whole lot of torque. Knowing how there is two injectors per cylinder, one in the port and the other one direct is quite promising as it is known to give a good amount of torque already. Couple that with the higher torque numbers naturally from a boxer.

We might see a 300hp/350 ft/lb STI version later on I'm guessing and if that happens with it's lower weight, it would be a monster. Monster eating rear tires every 6k miles that is(like C63's do lol).

Oh...and guess what guys? It's size is going to be awesome.

You see what I see? It's S2000 sized. Damn, it's going to be a fun car if STI gets its hands on it.

if there is a roadster version i would imagine/HOPE it wouldnt be on the sti model. i F'ing hate convertible sports cars.

and that size comparo makes me want it even more, so that means i am willing to go into massive amounts of debt for this thing... maybe.

You are comparing the Shelby GT500KR to an EJ207 for emissions legality?

With all due respect, the reason why the Shelby GT500KR is not "street legal" is because it has NOT GONE through California emissions testing yet. Compared to the EJ207(mind you, it has been out for a while) that CAN NOT pass emissions test without dropping it's power enough where the EJ25 is a better mass production motor to suit it.

How that particular instance with Shelby GT500KR's is that it goes from Ford to Shelby which undergoes modification(supercharger etc). The VIN# on the GT500KR is not a Ford VIN if you do research on it. There is ALSO addenum sticker to this car you posted from Shelby that adds what is done to the car. The GT500KR msrp's for 65k not 40k listed on the sticker.

that is an awesome pic. this is just what toyota needs. if an sti version gets made, i honestly hope it's rwd.. or VERY heavily rear biased..

I'm not compaing emissions...just the fact that there are cars sold that dont meet standards...

you never know....look we now are able to get a detuned GTR...perhaps if they are able to reduce the weight on the chassis..which a rwd platform would do...a detuned EJ20 might exist...only needing a reflash to unlock...then again...japan has a higher octane gas allowing a slightly more aggressive tune

A detuned EJ207 was debated much during the release of the STI to the states. In a sales standpoint, why offer a 270~hp STI when the WRX was getting that easily with bolt on mods? You were squeezing alot out of the EJ207 to get the 305bhp(stock forged internals etc), whereas the EJ257 had more torque. The EJ257 was clearly the answer when they brought the STI to the states in 2004. 305hp vs 270~ detuned? Believe it or not, numbers sold the cars to many people throughout these years.

1) Subaru/Toyota won't sell many FT86's if it was not road legal.

2) EJ207 is awesome but an aging motor,
3) Most likely the new Subaru/Toyota engine will have better mileage.
4) EJ257 will be phased out in a few years due to mileage laws.
5) Detuned EJ207 will be a problem if the known 2.0L NA model is 250hp.
6) FT86's main competitor when it will be released will be the 370Z. I sure as hell wouldn't want a detuned EJ207 if I was Subaru to compete against it.
7) I'm willing to bet that the STI's version will be 335hp on a new motor.

Crazy inhouse tuning wings like STI, AMG, etc embrace new engine technologies. Great example was the M155 Supercharged V8 on the 55' models. Some can argue that M155 is a better engine than the current 6.2L M156. The fastest AMG's to date save the v12's run the M155. They need to keep themselves fresh. Would I buy another car based on the EJ20? Probably not.
