yup, it's an 02 WRX hood scoop.. my brother did that first (except used a 04 WRX one) then then the original owner of this car copied him.

ummm.. it serves mostly for engine cooling since the nose vents on the bumper aren't completely open and my brother propped the hood up slightly at the hinges for the hot air to escape. Even if it were running a SR20 the stock intercooler is fender mounted I believe so no reason to have a scoop other than to cool the intake plenum and injector rails

My STi (Rumble) had afew too many drinks one night, a couple of years back. He was hanging out with a bunch of his Nissan friends, untill Rumble boy met this really nice 2 door coupe named Silvia. They hit it off, drove off together into the back woods of tantlus. Afew mins later, Rumble came back to me and we went home......I guess this must be Silvia's kid in the picture.....Now I have the hard task of going into the garage, and breaking the news to my STi about his illegitimate child.....
Don't mind me....I'm drinking right now in Ewa Beach, typing this on my buddys Iphone....

I don't get it
It will scoop up cold air, but it'll also suck in water and other contaminants and deposit them right onto the valve cover and plenum... I'd think a reverse scoop would do better to cool off the engine bay and allow for hot air to vent out, especially how it is higher and farther back on the hood.
