Looking to rebuild EJ20

Hey guys, wanted to know if anyone knows people who charge reasonably well for rebuilding engines. Due to timing belt breaking, my valves are bent, Pistons could be cracked and I have a hole in my block.

forget about that block then, get new short block (around $2000) and take care of your heads.

+1 if you got a hole its a lost cause. You might be able to save the heads, but the early 205's tend to crack around the sparkplug holes to.

Thanks for the link bro! Yeah I discovered that the hole was actually through a bracket mounted on to the block to support a pulley. Thank goodness. Looking to crack the engine in half this Sunday to diagnose everything

That's better, there is at least the possibility of rebuilding it then. Call Chad and ask, but I've rebuilt 2 engines and never again. In both cases it wound up being more expensive (roughly) and more hassle than just buying a new one. Crate motors really are stupid cheap these days. It's hard to tell from the website, but I think that's a full engine, not just the SB. $2800 and change is cheap. Labor on a rebuild is probably going to get you at least halfway there. Add in parts and oops factor. Not worth it to me.

Exactly! I agree 110% on what your saying! Ima call turn in, and see if that's the long block. Hopefully it is. I've take my engine out so, labor will be on me. Trying to save every penny. I've been trying to find the cheapest route and that engine you referred me to seems perfect. Thanks again for your input and advice. I just don't trust a rebuild, for 6k that's a lot of money not everyone has laying around

The quotes I got for a rebuild with minimum forged internals like Pistons for example. 4-6k. Plus labor

Yeah, screw that. 2.5 badger, SMALL TURBO (VF39 or 16g sized) and you'll have the funnest car out there. And probably won't kill your trans.

Talked to TiC the $2875 is for the short block. You can use hybrid pistons, though and get away from needing to machine your heads. Assuming your heads aren't cracked.

Thanks for checking up bro! Yeah I took out my motor and split it, looks like I just need to refurbish my heads and buy new valves to fix it. Pistons looks okay. If I buy that short block, still Gona have to do my heads
