Looking for a downpipe thermal wrap.

Just like the title says. I just put in the perrin one piece downpipe and was wondering if anyone has a thermal wrap they don't need anymore.

Thanks everyone.

Meh why bother? Wrapping the DP doesn't do anything useful.

Go with ceramic coating. I did the cheapy oreilly stuff and it def kept temps down looks like ****(did no prep) but serves its purpose. I can drive from Kbay to Honolulu and grab the pipe.......for about 1.5 seconds.

I just figured since there was a heat shield on the old dp before that it might be worth putting some sort of heat management on.

For what you would pay for at Ron's you could get 3x as much from amazon shipped to your door.

The benefits to wrapping the top half of the downpipe would be less radiant heat in the engine bay, protecting a lot of wiring that snakes down near the trans, keeping heat away from the firewall, and looking cool.

If you have extra, it's worth it. I also wrapped my exhaust near the rear diff because... Why not?

Wrap will work 100x better than coatings in most cases, unless they are baked on expensive ceramics.

Thanks for the awesome information. I hadn't even thought about looking on amazon. I'll have to check that out.

By the way, does anyone know why I might be hearing a metallic like vibrating sound when it's running. I tried to revv it, but it doesn't really sound like its in unison with accelerating. Could it be the nut I accidentally dropped in the engine bay and couldn't find?

DEI titanium wrap.
DEI 010127 2" Titanium Exhaust/ Header Wrap - 50' : Amazon.com : Automotive DEI 010127 2" Titanium Exhaust/ Header Wrap - 50' : Amazon.com : Automotive

Add some 8-10" Stainless worm-drive clamps. Depends on downpipe, take the diameter of your downpipe at the biggest location and go from there.

DEI sells their stainless locking clamps, I've used it 3 times now, and I hate them. The last piece I put on, I used a worm drive clamp. Much tighter around the pipe and much easier to work with.

For downpipe, I only did the first 20" or so , until the bend that takes it back to mate with the cat-back exhaust. No need to do the full downpipe.

##
As for the vibration/sound issue. I'm guessing you took a look down there and see that nothing is touching the downpipe? All your downpipe mounts are fastened. Sometimes the one that's 10" down from the bellmouth/top of the downpipe isn't on all the way, might make a rattle, especially on revving it. Wastegate bracket all out of the way? Shouldn't be too hard to find out what's hitting it, have a friend help you get to the bottom of it while they rev and you watch maybe.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the awesome advice. I'll definitely check that out. I'm not sure if there is one 10" down since it's single piece. I'm not looking at it right now (obviously lol), but if I recall correctly it's just the bolts to the cat-back and then up by the turbo. I'll check them all again though.

why don't you just put the heatshield back on? you'll need to cut it a little bit but shouldn't be a problem to put it back on to cover up the turbo. if you're going to wrap the downpipe make sure you also seal it. You can also get the titanium wrap at oriellys locally. I know the Mililani one stocks it. I can't remember the price though. I bought some when I was in a pinch.

Also I wouldn't use the hose clamps. Go buy marine grade stainless safety wire. It won't leave sharp edges and you can wrap the length of the pipe with it. You can get it in different thicknesses. I recommend it!!!
Aircraft Tool Supply Safety Lock Wire (.032): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Aircraft Tool Supply Safety Lock Wire (.032): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

It's very strong. I used it for ceramic shielding and it holds tight.

I lov this stuff. You can also use it instead of zip ties for wiring near the turbo since it won't rust and can handle the heat.

heat shield is much simpler. Wrap won't get anything noticeable and it takes some time to do it right. I have had exhausts crack due to wrapping to tight

what do you mean by get anything noticeable? why not take the time to do it right the first time around. and maybe it wasn't due to the wrap that you had an exhaust crack, i haven't heard of that
