when I first got my car, I had the same problem. But a few months later it went away. I guess it got "broken in" who knows

I have to pull on it til it almost breaks over and over, then I usually give up and open with the key. It has to just be hitting whatever striker plate or whatever too hard. Loosen it like Richard said and Im sure it would work fine. Just gotta do it. Im too lazy.
