lil help in decision on upgrades

Aloha all and here is my dilemma

I think my turbo is dieing. Im taking it to shop to get checked out but if its fine and just needs new hoses then would an evo 3 16g be an upgrade vs stock?

Second what is the preferred boost gushed/ controller to go with?

Would I need fuel injury upgrade or are stock sufficient?
Basically what it comes down to is im getting my allowance from wife of 2000it and wanna add more pep.

Any info will help thanks

Oh and my ride
2002 bugeyed wrx 100000 miles and has a uppipe of some sorts with cold air intake

either ev016g or vf34/39/43 with walbro fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, full tbe, and a tune. that should total to about 2000

Yes, a 16G would be an upgrade, but like hengman said, you will need upgrade injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, and a tune at the very least. Usually people will run STi Pink 565cc injectors, Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump, and OEM STi intercooler. Make sure you get the car tuned by a reputable shop because that is what will keep your car running right.

As for the boost controller; a lot of people I know run the Hallman Pro RX manual boost controller.

The boost controller that's best is the one your tuner recommends and prefers. Talk to them about it.

if you plan to stick with stock intercooler id say just stay with stock turbo, its not worth the money to upgrade everything else and get a tune but still use the stock intercooler. Its only a few hundred dollars more (250-300) for a sti intercooler and will be more then enough for your power needs.

Back just a couple years ago, a lot of the online retailers had kits that you could buy that took the guesswork out of things...Gruppe-s for instance, but they no longer have that on their site.

I am kinda out of the turbo-upgrade game so someone else will have to link you, but yeah you'll need all the parts the others listed. Probably best to just consult your tuner first.

Plan your goals like what are your targeting numbers. Then from their, research on the result each turbo produces based on supporting mods and tuners. To gauge on things, I use youtube to get an idea of each setup like my example was with Joe's build with his VF34(joejoe69)

You mentioned you have 100k on it. Is all the major/minor maintainence done? i.e. timing belt, HG's, idlers,etc.etc.

Hope that helps

was just in your position not too long ago. 04 wrx with 130,000 stock,

Now Blouch 16gxt, Wrx blues 06-07 same as sti pinks, walbro 255, grimmspeed MBC, COBB AP v2, dyno tune at gst. turboback, uppipe.

make sure you can proper maintenance prior - timing belt , h20 pump at 105k

On a budget you can probably do it, given you do the installs.
16g/VF48/forget the VF39 $600, used 565cc injectors $150, walbro $100, MBC $100, Used Cobb $400. Tune $400. exhaust $400, uppipe $100. used ebay TMIC $100. --- parts+tune. alone = $2000 plus. installed labor probably $500-600. ================ 280 whp/ 230 ft/lb - DD fun fun fun

Lol. If someone is bothering you at a red light it's as simple as reeving up. When the light goes green they speed off and you go back to enjoying yourMelonoma bar and reggae music.

Save yourself the money on labor though and do it your self. Almost all of it is fairly easy to do. If you don't feel comfortable, ask for help. I think the item that was hardest was swapping the injectors! Stupid green brackets of death! Hit up Spinplay, he has some of what your looking for.
