The thread basically states that until 5900rpm the VF23 OWNS the VF30.

Yes, I did my homework. And I'm very pleased I might add. Hey Teiva Boy what do you think about my 23 now?

"This ion performance turbo will compete with anything that IHI has to offer. The VF30 has nothing on it, the VF34 is a bit closer but still the iON turbo will spool quicker and has very bit of topend of a VF3x series. VF23, don’t even try"

Code:
IHI VF 23 423 CFM at 14.7 PSI
IHI VF-30 435 CFM at 14.7 PSI <--- estimated
ION Spec (stg 0) 525 CFM at 14.7 PSI <--- per vendor post 12-27-2002
=============================================

IHI VF 23 430 CFM at 18 PSI <--- estimated
IHI VF-30 460 CFM at 18.0 PSI <--- estimate based on trap speeds of cars running this turbo
ION Spec (stg 0) 500 CFM at 19 PSI <--- per vendor post 12-27-2002

Try again.

EDIT: Upon further thinking about having a great debate on which turbo is better. We have to keep inmind that you have a "generic map" If you could get your car on a dyno and have your chip retuned to YOUR car, you would definetly have a beast on your hands. Same goes for my car. Road tuning is not enough. You need to see where power is dropping off and add fuel or timing.

Ultimately I can flow more air then your VF23, thus making more power. However, for my setup it's all about tuning. Since this is going to be a self learning experience, you can go ahead and get your garrett while I'm still going for max HP on my iON turbo, and still be ahead of me. But then again, try to get a unichip map based on a garrett turbo :P

Damn,

The filter on the LAN I'm on won't allow access to ebay. What were you trying to show?

Great post, though.

Doesn't Jayson have a Shiv custom-tuned map in his Unichip?

Mitch, I can't wait to see what kind of #'s you put down when the link gets thrown in and tuned!

What we should do is put the worst driver in them. Then we will know it's the car not the driver.

The figures you posted are peak numbers from the vendor. Not to say your turbo doesn't rock but the info is a little biased, NO?

I'm sure with your Link tuned on your turbo with your headers and such you'll be very very fast.

My only point was that you may have jumped the gun with your analysis stating that the VF-23 would not remotely compare to the 30 series or ion turbo. Thats all. Considering you never drove a VF-30 or a VF-23 powered car that was a bold and ill informed statement. No?

But you are most definately wrong on me getting a garrett for my 02 WRX. Looks like I'll have to tune my new STI in June.

Wait, who said this? "2nd fastest WRX in hawaii chiming in here... I have an AVC-R and love it." And I thought Wes ran a 13.4.

Still waiting for you in the 12's.
