Kinda disappointed that it did not have the 45 AF point from the 1D series.

Just a mix features of the 50D and 21 MP of the 1DS. Oh well, I won't be upgrading my current 5D...

Edit: good thing it is compatible with EF/EFS lenses...

I'm disappointed in the AF too but for $5,000 cheaper than the 1Ds Mark III, it's well worth it. You get 1.1 fps less and no weatherseal and no 45point AF, but gain newer features. $2700 is a DEAL.

and it's not compatible with EF-S. No way a 36x24mm sensor will.

MKII... definitely a big increase in technological advancements but I'm not ready to lay down the money for a newer version... I'll have my camera for a couple of years and then we'll see... Since the MKII isn't more compatible with lenses than the first I'll be all set when the time comes to get the MKII or MKIII

The increase in ISO range is a definite advantage and the additional features that you've listed is enticing but as stated earlier not ready to make an upgrade yet.

UNLESS: someone wants to buy my 5D now

Agree on that, but just reiterating the website features: "Compatible with over 60 Canon EF/EF-S lenses and most EOS System accessories."

But does not show in the specification tab, EF mount only.

That's what plenty of people are doing though. Some people wanted Canon to release an entry level FF DSLR and held off buying a 5D, but so far that wasn't what Canon is putting out. For those who are upgrading from their 5D, it is still considered a "classic" camera hence their resale value will be still very high. I've heard many pro's are looking to dump their 5D for a mk2 just because it will be such a badass backup.

"By applying the same kind of advancements in sensor design and image processing technology as the recently introduced EOS 50D camera, but at higher resolution and with larger pixels, the EOS 5D Mark II achieves the highest level of image quality of any EOS Digital SLR released to date."

If it has the same IQ or better with the 50D with gapless microlenses, it will blow the 5D's IQ out of the water. And beating the 5D's IQ is a huge feat.

Anyway, Jon, have you seen the new 24mm f/1.4L? Looks promising but I'd probably would wait for the new Zeiss ZE's to come out with their renowned 21mm and see what's it like.

Nikon stepped up last year with the D300 and D3, I wish I could afford the D3 at that time when I wanted to switch to full frame. Now with the D700, it is a whole new game, Full Frame mid/ pro range, 51 or 53 AF points, and other goodies, can't beat that.

In my opinion, Nikon has done a good job in R&D and hit the market pretty hard with these cameras. Guess what, why some Canon users made the switch to Nikon lol...

New cameras like Canon 50D, 5D Mark II, and Nikon D90 have now the video feature, which I think it is more dedicated to P&S camera rather than DSLR... just my opinion.

It happens both ways. I personally know of a few pro tog's that do mostly static and studio work that switched from a D3 to the original 5D just because of a lighter body and has better IQ in low ISO and bigger enlargements(20"x30"). This is all before the whole D700 came out which is pretty much a D3 that is cheaper and has some newer features. I firmly do believe that the D700 is a better portrait camera than the original 5D, but by the slimmest of margins. For landscapes, the 5D always blew the D3 out of the water and I expect the old 5D to do the same vs D700.

Will the 5D Mk.II shift Nikon users to Canon? It won't. What would be interesting is that since the gap between the 5D Mk.II and the 1Ds Mk.III is very small, it'll make you wonder what Canon has in store for their upcoming refresh. Nikon is releasing something big soon for their Dx series and I expect Canon to do so right afterwards for their 1D series.
