Interesting talk with Cobb
1. I got through on the first call and talked to a real, knowledgeable, person.
2. I'm sending my ECU off this afternoon!! Wooo Wooooo!
3. I mentioned that I have a vishnu underdrive pulley and he gave me a word of warning: He said that with the ECU reflash, it has been known to lose track of the crank angle sensor, not see how fast the crank is spinning, have your ECU 'freak out,' and cause your car to bog. I told him I'd run it like this for quite a while with no probs and he said not to worry too much, but it has been known to happen after the reflash. He said that it didn't cause a flashing CEL, or anything like that, just made the car bog between 6k and 6.5k RPM.
I just thought I would share that, since I hadn't heard about it before. The fix is to remove the UD pulley and put the stock (or at least one heavier than what you currently run) one back on the car.
4. I'm stoked. Got to run to Walmart to get packing materials!

Interesting thought Greg. If you do a little digging Cobb was one of the tuners that was actually against pullies... Or course arguing about pullies is about as productive as jerking off without any lotion...
wait scratch that last remark

Accessport?
Hey Etch, did you ask them about AccessPort? I was going to send my ECU in as well, but according to their forum AccessPort is coming out at the end of the month, which is in like one week... Just a though.

I didn't ask because, for right now, I'm doing the plug and play car. Later I may change my mind, but priorities are a changin'. Seriously, give them a call. Really nice, and seemingly knowledgable. 801-713-0035.
thanks!
I will call them and say what's up. I've heard only good things about them. An advantage to getting the re-flash is if you decide to get the AccessPort later, you only pay the difference (100 bucks). Be sure to post when you get your ECU back, I'm really excited about doing this upgrade as well.

What I'm not liking about the accessport is that you can only reflash your ECU 100 times or so. Then you have to buy a new ECU.
Lets say your tuning a nasty knock at a certain RPM, you can go through some 20 different changes trying to pull back timing or add fuel. That could possibly mean you just shortened your ECU life by ~20%. A new ECU is going for around $400...
But you have to admit the price to performance ratio is outstanding compared to Ecutek.

I was wondering if the ECUTek would have the same limitation since both are reflashing the same memory. It is the same ECU they are both flashing and basicly the same method. It may be a physical limitation of the memory and not of either process? Just a thought.
