Installing Defi gauges?!

I got a boost and egt gauge and umm, i'm hoping to throw it in the A pillar gauge pod that I bought. Has anyone ever installed these gauges themselves who possibly wouldn't mind helping me out? Just figured i'd ask the suby fam and see what's up.

MUUUCHHH mahalooo.

From my understanding, for the E.G.T gauge, you need to drill into your manifold, and boost, install the t connector and stuff..Someone correct if im wrong plz..I saw a link posted and ill post it for you as soon as I find it..

Happy Holidays,

EGT depends on where you want to put it. mine is on the manifold between the 1 & 3 cylinders. boost is easy, you can plumb the line into a couple of places.

defi's are the easiest gauges to install. you only have to hook up 4 wires to the control unit and the rest of the gauges daisy chain together.

2002-2003 WRX owners know that cylinder 3 is the leanest since it's closest to the turbo. it reads the upstream before it goes into the turbo.

now in the present most people are installing them on the drivers side between cylinders 2 & 4 since it is the furthest away from the turbo and it reads the engine exhaust temp.

It is easy but the most important thing is the placement of the probe due to the front cross member and it's relation to the manifold and engine mounts.

Think again. That is the last place you should put your EGT sensor. There are a lot of opinions on which header pipe to tap, but I went with the forward-most passenger-side exhaust manifold pipe after quite a bit of research. The distance from the block is important as well. Research twice, install once.

DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT use the t-connector that comes with the defi gauges for the boost....its garage and too small for the line you need to put it in. The line you'll be putting it in is the small one coming off of the stock BOV/BPV. Go to Home Depot or somewhere and get a bigger t-fitting and then cut that small hose, put the fitting in, connect the hose and the sensor and run the wiring. I mounted the sensor on the side of the engine bay on a grounding wire that was already bolted on there. Then run the wiring to the firewall, and I popped out one of the rubber plugs (the thing filling the grommet hole) and made a small hole in it and ran the wiring through. Its very easy you just need to look around and see whats easiest to fit everything

Sorry, I should have elaborated that the reason the uppipe location for the EGT probe sucks is that it is too far away to give you any accurate information. Not to mention if you're running your motor hard, you may just "lose" your EGT probe. I had my EGT probe installed in my aftermarket headers where the uppipe would normally be and "lost" two EGT probes (Apexi) on two different track days. I'm guessing I melted them, but I suffered no damage and moved the EGT probe closer to the block. Bear in mind these probes were destroyed with the stock turbo. According to Apexi, these probes were good up to 1500 degrees in race RX7s. I've never had a problem since, so I tend to believe Apexi.
