Indianapolis Raceway Park, Circle dirt tracks, and endless highway

I'm headed home (in about 3 months)

I may have told a few of you, but my previous job was a wash for me. Long story but man! some folks who decide they have it in for you really can be harsh. Because of that, I need another command; anything, in order to get promoted and reach my 20.

A few phone calls. A few emails. Now, I'm the future company commander of the Bloomington, Indiana recruiting company.

For those that don't know, this is pretty unique in that I am from Indiana. Graduated college at Indiana Univ. and was commissioned through their ROTC. I am a Drill Sergeant from the Reserve center in B-ton. Lived there for 5 yrs (!) while I barely got my degree.

With the GWOT (global war on terrorism) going on, a recruiter's life is made very much more difficult than it already is, but the guy I'm replacing told me that for the first time in years his company didn't make mission last quarter....but still was 5th in the nation, so it sounds like I'll have some very strong recruiters.

Back to racing....any way, any how, any time I can, I will. The downside is that the chances are great that I'll get to play with my car very seldom as I understand that my job will be long hour days, 7 days a week.

Aloha!

Congratulations Pat! You're the man for the job. I'd buy what you're selling anyday.

So what's Indiana like? Would be it a smart place to escape from Hawaii to?

Good luck, Pat! I know you'll find a way to get the time off & enjoy the track! I can't wait to head home myself (only 2 1/2 more years left )

Thanks all.

Indiana is nice. I must admit that since having grown up there, it's not my favorite place in the world but as time goes on, I learn that I can't escape my roots. It's a part of me.

That's not to say that it will be my retirement state (in just 6 short years), but it's features are more than familiar, they're second nature. Probably any negative thoughts about it stem from adolescence and since I've left, I haven't had a chance to close chapters. My hometown, though, doesn't facilitate that. I think that it's ***** in that it's very pretty to look at, but ugly under the surface; doesn't give a **** about it's sons; and isn't looking towards improving itself. I'd bet that Kierna would back me up on that one.

On the other hand, Bloomington (southern, hillier Indiana) is very nice. It's almost as if it's another state. It's beautiful landscapes, culture, nightlife, and for 9 months a year, there's no shortage of eye candy (especially in the warmer months). As much of an eyesore as I am, I seriously never had to lift a finger to find companionship. It was like going to an apple orchard and picking the ones you like off the trees.

Indianapolis is also a great city. Everything in Bloomington, but urban, urbane, metropolitan but never forgetting it's in the midwest. All the important sports (except baseball with only a AAA team, the Indians. The HOME of racing. IRP and the Brickyard are there as well as many small carting and sprint events held in the Hoosier Dome (that was it's name when I lived there.) There's a velodrome for bicycling, not one but 3 colleges that I know of. 16th largest city.

Indiana has massive development in parts and fierce adherance to tradition in others. Gorgeous non-civilization and the sprawling creep of growth.

I'll always say that it's worthy of a visit but be careful because you might find that it really pulls you in.
