i'm on a mission

i got a budget of $500, give or take a few twenties.

i need a tune up, badly. i need to really invest under the hood, even if it's just regular maintenance. i don't know what i need though.

i heard, to get good spark plugs...?
air filter...but i don't know what kind.
do i need flushes? like transmission and anti-freeze and all that?
i don't know...but i just want my engine to stop that clanking sound when it runs idle or when it accelorates.

is there a good professional mechanic shop you guys could recommend me to? and what to look for during their checks?

For maintenance, I only trust Ed (sub-sonic) under my hood. He works at Waipahu Schuman.

how old is your car and milage? have you been doing your regular maintenance?

i'd say change all your fluids. transmission, oil. radiator (if you want). spark plugs would probably help. the stock air filters are okay.

as for that clanking sound do you know where it is coming from in your engine (open hood and trying to isolate component or area)?

its a 2002 wrx, about 40K on it. and no...just the oil and oil filter.

i have a feeling i'd have to change every thing under the hood.

as for the sound, i need someone to look at it...i have no clue what to look for.
