If anyone else breaks their tranny...

I just stumbled across some information that might be useful to you. (From Mitch's disk)

The RS Wagon (TS, right?) has a tranny that should match up to the WRX (wagon and sedan). The gears, except for 1st, are taller and I can't tell, but it says that the front diff gear reduction final drive is actually 3.90 just like the WRX. Unfortunately, like I am going to have to do, you would have to replace the ring & pinion because the rear gear reduction is 3.545. (it's actually 3.90 but for reasons I don't understand, the transfer gear ratio is 1.1 as opposed to 1.0.)

Does that make any sense to anyone?

Also, what's the purpose of the 'vehicle speed sensor'? My first guess is the obvious. It's what feeds input to the speedo, but hell I don't know; it could be what feeds input to the ECU which then governs top speed.

???

Hey also, does anyone have any thoughts on the rear diff and the difference between the 160 and 180?

Also, I know that before I've asked if anyone had any sort of aftermarket clutch experience or advice, but now I'm asking if anyone has any leads on where to find the best deals.

You know the deal. I'm scouring the internet, but everyone's prices are comparable.

How about this flywheel (found on ebay for $132 at this time.)

This is the BPM lightened flywheel for the new age (2002+) Subaru Impreza WRX. This flywheel is approximately 14.5lbs in weight; BPM claim their research has shown this to be the optimal flywheel weight.
This flywheel has been professionally resurfaced subsequent to removal from the vehicle, and as such is essentially in perfect / like-new condition. The BPM unit is one of the better flywheels for the WRX. Made from 4140 billet and subsequently heat treated, this unit shows shows exceptional durability and balance.

Please check my feedback rating and bid with confidence. I make a particular effort to ensure that people are satisfied with their purchases. This item carries a modest reserve to protect my investment. The retail price on the BPM flywheel is $495.

hey Pat, if you're interested in the Exedy clutches/flywheels, I believe Steven can get a good deal on them.

hmmm. Ok. If I link up with you and Mike tomorrow, I'll ask Mike to give him a call.

What do you think of that $132 BPM, though? There's like 12hrs left.

oh, I dunno, I really don't like auctions. But a lot of people get stuff that way. The BPM flywheel is sweet! But if it was resurfaced 'too low', then it's a paper weight.

Are you looking for 5spd stuff, or 6spd stuff?

no brand? looks kinda like a Fidanza, but a lot of 'em look that way.

I like buying from someone I trust, so I'm not much help with auctions.

I'm just looking for 'stuff'.

As a matter of fact, the only website where I've found Subaru 6spd specific drivetrain parts is the above 'four-star' website.

I know there must be others, but I'm not having much luck in finding. The only reason I asked you if you were sure if there was a difference between a 5spd and a 6spd clutch and flywheel is because I saw another post where a 'guru' was pretty adamant that it would fit. I'm rechecking what he said b/c he might just be referring to the clutch and plate.

From Adam at Z-1 performance.

I should ahve been more clear..the clutches from the 5 speed are swappable to the 6 speed...6 speed specific cluthes are just slghtly (and I mean slightly!) larger: 225mm 6 speed) vs. 220 mm (5 speed IIRC.

This guy will sell me his v7 clutch & flywheel both, which he claims has low miles, for $400.

Could someone give me their opinion today so I can tell him yea or nay?

Another question.

What are some folks feelings on piecing together a brake 'kit'?

For instance, Tirerack has some nice rotors (Baer) for a pretty good price, I guess.

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...++2pc+Rotor+Pr

If I were to get these, what are the pros & cons of upgrading the calipers? Is it even necessary?
