I think I'm going to install something on my car...but it's a secret.

I believe I ought to be able to pickup a USDM STI short block tomorrow.

Thoughts? Chris?

Anyone have any tuning advice? Rich?

Sean says it should be like 8.8:1 versus my 8:1. How will that affect the tune (I know I'm going to have to completely redo my tune).

What effects should I see in keeping the VF30 with it? I think I'm going to hack on my stock injectors tomorrow AND do the FPR hack (probably not tomorrow, though).

Either I'm going to need a place to do this or I'm going to have to take it to the auto-crafts shop. I might end up missing the AutoX, though. We'll have to see.

Bottom line, I've made up my mind. The only thing that might stop me is bad luck.

Later, probably much later, I plan on boring & stroking and sleeving.

Try George at Schuman Beretania first. I think that way you shouldn't have to worry about shipping costs.

On Nasioc there's one or two vendors who get one in once in a while.

Damn dude, the thought of asking you to use your garage is tempting. Waianae just seems so far away.

Pat, ... I know you'll have to re-tune things, .... but even without a retune you should be 'safe'. I-Speed proved that.

I-Speed has a dyno up of the STi block and wrx heads, w/sti injectors, etc, etc, ... and a 20G!!

... also, ... I've been trying to find the thread/threads on nasioc about the whole compression ratio thing (for the wrx heads, and RS heads using the STi block), ... but I can't find it yet.

If you want to use this block with your WRX heads, the best options are

(a) use it as it. Higher compression
(b) get the bigger dish pistons so you have the lower compression.

The STI Heads have very similar area, but since they flow more, they would probably be better suited. Or perhaps some better WRX cams.
Jeff
I guess I'll be looking at 8.6:1 which according to NMYeti is apparently agreeable, if not assisting in fighting det. I really don't know the effects of higher or lower compression. Although I seriously plan on further strengthening (when I return from Afg and after I'm situated), I don't want to drop this thing in and immediately it's a timebomb and I see no increase in performance.
