I must be doing something HORRIBLY wrong

I was wandering the pages and came upon this thread on 1/4 mile times. I just about crapped myself.

I know I'm not the best driver in the world (not by far) but I can pull a 1.8 60'. I've done it at least three times. I have far more than a stock WRX and have still only pulled a 14.3 1/4. That was with a LOW 1.9 60'.

Is HRP really that bad, or do I have some sort of horrible shift technique that allows me to get from gear to gear rapidly but still leaves me woefully slow? Any thoughts/comments from the peanut gallery will be greatly appreciated.
-Greg

Thought: This makes me wonder about shifting as close to the rev-limiter as I do. The car sometimes bounces off the rev-limiter as I change gears.

Most of us are .2-.4 off of what we would be running if we were on the mainland... Except for Jayson we're all pretty shy of the mph we should be running as well.

The Hawaii Triangle strikes again.

just came back from the track tonite, and only had two runs since there was madd people. i was at Orlando Speedworld. anyways, i didnt know what to expect but found a fellow suby with a blue wrx running a utec, downpipe, exhaust n maybe more. anyways i talked to him bout how he ran his first time stock. he said stock he ran a 14.7 and with a boost controller a 14.5. so that was my goal for tonite to hit a 14.5 since im stock with a mbc set ~16psi. he gave me some tips on launching, since i burn up my clutch most of the time on the street when i try. he said to ease up the clutch til it kinda engages and rev to 5500 then slip it a bit. good stuff. anyways i stage up and overstage and the green light suprises me. anyways i do what he told me and this is the result:

R/T..... 1.780
60'..... 2.038
330.... 5.894
1/8..... 9.107
MPH... 76.72
1000.. 11.863
1/4..... 14.216
MPH.... 95.66

not bad from what i expected. not bad at all, but i really wanna cut down that 60' down under 2 secs. im sure that'll help me cut down my et. any advice anyone???

Like ****.

I run a low 1.9 launch with a Vishnu Stage 1 with boost spiking at 1.17bar and I get a 14.3@94.~

I'd like to blame it on HRP, but since I am well aware that I am not a great driver, I'll just attribute it to that. Practice, practice practice...

Wink

dude, HRP does suck that bad! We've discused this many, many, many, many, (ok, you get the point) times!
It's been proven by people bringing their race cars here and consitantly running .2-.4 tenths or whatever slower.

Greg,
do you still have the unichip and ebc on your car? I guess it's running okay now?

oh yeah, ... you'd probably have better luck shifting just before redline, I think a lot of us got our better times on the stock turbo doing that.

Currently enjoying Flashing-CEL-free driving without Unichip or EBC. Gonna wait awhile before I put it back on. As I said before: That bad plug freaked me out a bit. Since no one on island is interested in my setup, I'm waiting, and when my p***y stops hurting I'll put my gear back in. Thanks for the tip on the shifting. I'll try that. BTW: IS HRP open this saturday? I need to spend some time with my wife tonight, so no track.
