I learned An Important Lesson Today.....
Always check what time "Street meter parking" stops becoming "parking"!!!! Well here's the story....I think this one tops the fricken "cooking with turbo" story......Anyways, I found meter parking and went to pay a bill for $5.14. Thats right, I typed it correct $5.14. I came back down about 10 mins later and saw my car being towed away!!!! I yelled at the guy "Hey, that's my car!!!" he ran, not walk, RAN back to his tow truck when he heard me,and took off......OK NOW I'M PISSED, he heard me and STILL drove off...I ran after him 1 1/2 blocks.....Now for those of you who haven't meet me, I'm 6"0' /280 lbs....I ran so fast,I couldn't beleve it. I guess when you see your freshly washed WRX on the back of some AS@#$!% truck, you seem to be superman....He got stuck at a red light and I ran up and punched his driver side window......Ok,Ok,before you start flaming me, I know he just doing his job but I was not thinking clearly at the time.....It could of been from the lack of air reacing my brain, from the 100 meter dash from hell.....but I was pissed. He rolled down his window and he yelled back (In pidgin) "Ho, you #%$! haole, why you stay punching my truck??" "That's my car,*Breath* I'll pay the @%#ing drop fee *Breath*". He pulled over to the side and told me it will cost $124.00 to drop my car.....(Well, he sort of had me by the *****, Like I had a choice????) I agreed to pay the fee.....He dropped it, and went on his marry way to @%# up someone elses day......I looked on the windshild and theres a ticket for the amount of $50.00.....Written 2 mins before Mr.tow happy got to my car!!!!! GREAT, where these two having lunch together around the corner??? Well, here the moral.ALWAYS CHECK SIGNS WHERE YOU PARK. I somehow turned a $5.14 bill into a grand total bill of $179.14 in less than 10 mins. my legs are sore and my pockets are empty. There is a bright side, The bill for $5.14 was orginaly supposed to be $300.If you think about it I saved $120.86.....That's what I'm telling myself so I don't loose it......

I had a sorta similiar sitaution a few years ago at Kakaako park where it was barely after closing and this tow company was already there picking up my car. He had barely started and was telling me he would stop if I paid the drop fee. well after arguing with him on how he just barely got his fat a$$ out of the truck I ended up agreeing to pay the fee cause of a cop that was there stating what the law is. so anyways he drops it and i'm thinking i can just pull out my credit card and where done well bad news for me he doesn't (go figure) well he picks the car right back up and says I owe him another hook up fee on top of the drop fee. well he starts to drive away leaving my wife (my gf at the time) to walk home when the cop stops him and tells him how f-uped it is to leave my wife and I there stranded. so after the cop talked to him the driver agreed to take me to an ATM to get the money. well when it was all said and done i got my car back and i only paid for the first drop fee. in my personal opinion I think a lot of these tow companies are like a bunch of predators just waiting to cash in on us and i personally think a lot of it is off the books and pocketed by the drivers.

tow truck drivers tend to do that to you....that sucks dave, that's why i stay away from meters and make sure i parked where i don't get towed...then again, if they tow my car, i just pay it and show it to my insurance afterwards(receipt) and they refund me...

yeah, awd cars shouldn't be towed like regular cars. it'll mess up the diff i think. a lot of tow truck guys are just out for the money man. the parking lot where i work doesn't open till 6am, but i'm there before 5am sometimes baking, and i see a tow truck sometimes waiting in the very back corner of the lot, where it's super dark. waiting to pounce. f**kers

Hey that sucks...and I know where you're talking about.
Downtown has metered stalls that get towed at around 3:30 PM...had it happen to myself (I paid the drop) and an employee (had to go pick up the car).
Just so you know...my drop fee was $50.

^^ yea, that was my first and only ticket! i didnt see the sign that says no parking after 3:30. i was lucky, they had to tow the guy in from of me first before they could get my car, so i got there before anything got lifted...
