I have suffered from severe migraines since I can remember. Recently, a good friend of mine told me about B Vitamins (Riboflavin (B-2), Niacin (B-3), and Pyrodoxine (B-6) especially) being a VERY important part of a normal diet, and often an overlooked aid in migraine relief.
There have been SEVERAL studies done regarding the relationship between B vitamin deficiencies and migraines, and most (if not all) support the finding that a lack of B vitamins in the diet increases the likelihood of getting a migraine, as well as increasing their intensity.
I've found that in MY case (let's be clear about that), increasing my B vitamin intake has significantly reduced the frequency and intensity of my migraines. B vitamins also assist the body with a variety of other functions, including Asthma, High Cholesterol, Arthritis, Blood Circulation, Brain function, Insomnia, Arteriosclerosis, etc...
Changing your diet or increasing your B vitamin intake MAY assist you with migraines. I am NOT a medical doctor, so I can only offer this as my perspective/opinion. If you do decide to increase your intake of certain vitamins, definitely consult a doctor, especially if pregnant, as increasing the intake of certain vitamins TOO much can lead to a variety of birth complications. Also, if you increase your intake of Niacin (B-3), do so in low doses (25 mg) and VERY gradually as it assists your body with toxin purging and you will find youself becoming flushed, or your skin will itch as the body gets rid of certain toxins.
Obviously changing your diet may not be enough, but it's a relatively easy way to improve/maintain general health and may be one of the pieces of the puzzle to reducing or eliminating migraines and other ailments.
Hope I don't come off sounding like a health nut...I'm not. I smoke over a pack a day, don't exercise much and drink lots of Mt. Dew. However, since I started taking my battery of vitamins every day, I have seen the effects of the bad things I do to my body diminish.
