Jon,

What they could be doing to create image is reduce the amount of colors in photoshop, like a 16 color gif, then export it to a program like illustrator, and use an auto trace. Fast method, the problem with it is that you will have to go back through it and smooth everything out.

The other method is that they could have some kind of photoshop plugin, that will do that automatically.

Finally the most time consuming method is to trace the image manually in illustrator or freehand. This is one that takes the longest, but it yields the best results.

I could be going in a completely different direction, than what they did though.

I'll pm you my number call me if you need any help.

Brandon

That pic was done entirely in Illustrator. I'm pretty sure it was traced.

Well I've done the Long method (it really sucks and results may vary )

Where is that auto trace feature in illustrator? For all the years that I've been using it I can never seem to find it! It maybe called something else in 10!

As far as a Photoshop plug-in is concerned I couldn't find one

Oh by the way this is not changing my mind about adding a car on the shirt the information I'm gathering now is for future plans... If I can find something I like I may use it on the shirt but it isn't likely!

Yeah, the long method is basically that. It takes hours, but it can turn out the best.

The auto trace feature is a sub-tool of the blend tool. The Icon looks like a wave line over a bunch of straight horizontal lines. I doesn't work very well with images with lots of color variations. I am using illustrator 8 at work, and I have 10 at home. Once I get home, I'll find out if the auto-trace tool is in the same spot.

I tried looking for a photoshop plugin, but there are thousands of plugins out there, and I got tired reading the descriptions.

hope this helps.

the process is called vectoring. its the counterpart of raster, another computer illustration process. vectoring is hard as heck, ask scsi. its very time consuming but in the end, it'll look very good, exactly Auto Modellista like.

I think the gauge cluster would look good with the red backlighting.

No...not just same old Joey...it's just how to do things the right way and the wrong way, that's all I'm saying. I'm not trying to say don't design the shirt (God kows we all appreciate it), but the whole point is we ALL agree on it, not just people who drive RS's, or just those who have STi's, etc. EVERYONE has to be represtended in some way, shape or form, otherwise there is no need to do it.
