Help with steering column and car locks

Wondering on the interchangeability of steering column/mounts and ignition/door/trunk locks for a 2001 RS sedan. Car was broken into and I need to get these replaced. I hope someone has the insight to this. I'm thinking of buying a parts car and swapping things over.

I guess car thefts is indication of the holidays in Hawaii.

Thanks in advance and I'll promise to help out if anyone needs anything from me. Open doors.

Edit: ugh, unintended pun.

You should be able to order them from servco. The ignition switch probably has tamper resistant torx bit heads for the bolts holding it on. Just the ignition switch can be changed, or you can swap the entire steering column from the same body style vehicle. The locks on the doors and trunk can be changed with basic hand tools rather easily.

Thanks, I have to replace the bracket holding the column on. I don't know why, but they broke/twisted it. Probably a donor car would be the best bet right?

Contact this guy.

1996 Subaru Impreza AWD 2.2 5 Speed, Parts Car.

He is located right by the entrance to abes in pearl city.

He has a couple of old subarus. Maybe he still has the keys to one and would sell you what you need.

Yup. Called him right before posting. The column is out of the car and the brackets are bent about 30 degrees. I don't know why they did that.

Thankfully, I did an OK job at my ignition immobilizer and the car stopped before they could get out of the stall.

Now that the column is out, any suggestions for upgrades/prevention?

You could repaint it with a Twilight theme. I don't think many gays steal cars.

aznsexrboy808, I'm looking for a replacement boot/trunk lock for a 2000 Forester. Can you let me know if you find anyone likely?

(also looking for rear seat headrests, leather for choice).

Thanks.

My car was hobo themed. Maybe that's why it attracts the hobos.

Hobo themed? Does that mean it has its own shopping trolley full of carrier bags?

Are all of your locks damaged?

You can replace only what is broken. The tumblers can be re-pinned. This isnt very difficult. Take one of your good lock cores, and match the new tubler pin the sequence and length of an existing one.

You only need basic tools to do this. Pretty much just small flat head screw drivers, needle nose pliers, calipers, pencil, paper, and a little patience.

Subaru uses an 8 pin lock. The pins can be re-arranged to match your key.

I've only dont it once, but it was fun. Kinda like a puzzle or something. haha. Small files and an extra core would help a lot.
