I have 02 wrx just sitting at my house collecting dust. You could come by and try the MAF out of it. If that doesnt fix it, I can help you get the timing covers off to see if the belt slipped..

try disabling your UTEC LC/FFS. I've had issues with that before. When you disconnected the UTEC, did you reset your ECU?

I have disconnected the utec and reset the ecu with no luck.

tonight we swapped out the MAF sensor and it didnt help.

After resetting the ecu the bottom end came way smoother but stil hits a wall at 4k rpm

gonna try take off the cam gear covers and check if i skipped a tooth on the cam gears
problem is all the bolts for the cover wont come out because the nuts are spinning inside the plastic.

did you check your intercooler hoses and vacuum lines to make sure that they are properly connected. I know that if you forget to tighten the throttle body to intercooler and you hit boost the car will bog pretty hard. no CEL either. check the y pipe connections as well.. if FMIC then check all your connections to make sure a hose clamp didn't come off.

i understand that you're trying the most complicated things first... I try the easiest things first

Car Info: Hi, I'm John.
I assume you can rev past 5k or whatever when it's not in gear (ie no load) ?
Without going WOT, rev past 5k (partial throttle past 5k) ?

Can you take a UTEC log of the knock/detonation and post it here?

+1

Out of gear no load i still does the same thing, it doesnt matter if im going full throttle or creeping up on 5k rpm partial throttle it does the same thing.

ill try post a log of the event

i got the cam gear covers off enough to align them and both sides align properly but is there a way to tell if the crank is aligned properly without removing the pulley?

with and without load doing the same thing mean there is something physically going wrong in the engine. are you sure you timed the engine correctly? what about the crank sprocket? are any of the teeth broken? there is a timing sensor that looks at them but you would have gotten some sort of check engine light though.

Car Info: Hi, I'm John.
Please do this just for me very quickly, go to your utec settings. Change your Flat Foot Shifting RPM to 7200 and change your Launch Control RPM to 7200. Both of these settings are in the parameters section. I've had this problem before. I know you said you tried without the UTEC, but still.

alright I gotcha. Thanks for checking that parameters anyway. It's best to check the easy things first. Which logger did you use? Logger 1? It doesn't have the knock count on there. Do you get a blinking CEL light right after/during the 'wall'? Per the log, you're certainly not overboosting. That rules that out.

IT DOES HAVE THE KNOCK COUNT, ITS THE LAST COLUMN. YES I GET A FLASHING CEL WHEN IT HAPPENS BUT THEN GOES AWAY.
