help with downpipe
i just recently installed a invidia v3 dp and was wondering is it necessary to reuse the heatshield on the turbo? or will the car run fine with or without the heatshield, is it worth it for me to cut up the heatshield to make it fit with the downpipe? btw i have a short ram aps intake if that makes any difference
also after the install, the boost gauge on my turbo timer stopped working, it just reads 0.00 all the time now, anybody have any input on this? thanks in advance :RockOn - not mine:

it is definetly beneficial to re-install the heat shield. the heat from the turbo will heat soak your intecooler.

Either that or look for an A/M heatshield.....Cusco/Cobb etc. Does it's job and gives you the bling factor. You might need to trim the stock one to get it back on.

how do you mean the boost gauge on your TT stopped working? the display isn't coming on? it's not reading properly? what vacuum line are you tapping for boost gauge?
as stated above you should reinstall the heat shield since it's there for a reason. heat is your enemy with turbo. nothing beats a free mod that you can do at home with the right tools.
Jon
If it just reads 0.00 all the time it's possible that it's one of your connections... question still stands as above though. if you didn't install it, a picture speaks a thousand words

now would be a good time to learn something about your car then. good luck. www.scoobymods.com
Put the heatshield on.
Just borrow a cutter from someone...it is very important to have that thing on there. It protects your intercooler from heatsoak...helps keep cylinder 3 cool'ish...AND protects the turbo from water dripping down from the hoodscoop (which can crack the turbo if cold meets hot).
So yeah...get it on ASAP.

Buy an aviation grade cutting sheer (glorified scissors). It will cost you all of $10 and cut almost anything. Be carefull, fingers are handy to have. I run a smalll heat shield with a FMIC.
