Help. Clutch is kickin my butt
I disconnected:
wires-reverse, gear input etc.
shifter linkage
half shafts
exhaust,
starter,
driveline
tranny cross-members X2
slave cylinder
tranny ground
and I'm sure some other stuff.
I can't get the engine and tranny to seperate on the drivers side.
Passenger side seems easy to move the first 1/4", but the drivers side won't budge.
IS THERE SOME FREEKIN' TRICK TO THIS?
I pulled, pryed, twisted, lifted and swore for an hour and a half with absolutely no success. I suck and I need help.
Any advice is welcome.
Any help tomorrow is also welcome. My car is at the autoport by the carwash. I'll be there at 12 when they open.

are you on the ground doing it?
Did you try jacking up the motor at all while you were wiggling it around?
If I were you, I would call subaru tech # 692 (or something like that
), ... Ed.
b/c it seems you have gotten everything, I'm assuming you double checked all the bolts and what-not.
Ed could proably help you out with just a few minutes on the phone while you are in front of your car. Do you have his number?

Did you disconnect the dogbone? The slave cylinder? The Wiring harnesses in the engine bay?
What you need to realize is that the engine wants to tilt foward and the trans wants to tilt backwards. This puts bind on the dowel pins. Keep the engine with a slight tilt to the rear, then you want lift(I HOPE YOURE NOT DOING THIS ALONE!!)wiggle, pull, and grunt from the front diff position(two of you at least, yanking and pulling it should pop out.) You might try to wedge a screw driver or prybar to get it loose around the dowels.
Oh yeah, I don't know if you carried one already but the gc8 trans with an extra two diffs aren't light. Be prepared. Potty mouth

That's the problem
I assumed, since I've never done a suby clutch, that the engine would either rock back or be level. Guess I'll tilt that sucker back today. It was binding on the pins and I moved that tranny in every direction posible.
I have it up on a lift, with a tranny jack.
I'm working alone, but today I might have some help.... RIGHT?!?!?
And yes, the slave cylinder, dogbone and wires are all disconnected.
Thanks guys,
Dominic

Dom,
Are you on Pearl at the Autocraft shop?
About all you'll get out of me is a worker. I won't be much help in figuring out how to do it, but I'd be more than happy to give a hand.
Where and when?
Pat

Good luck dom. If this is the first time that you're cracking the bell housing off the engine, it's always a pain to get them separated... Scu gave you the correct way, And even using that technique it's a pain to get done...

Yeah it was a royal pain in the ars.
The drivers side dowel pin was rusted into the block. It was driving me insane. Last night I was throwing shtuff and yelling. Today I stayed calm, used Scu's advice about lifting the front of the engine.. .. and... ... it still didn't come out.
So I squirted some penetrating oil on the dowel, shook the tranny and screamed alot. Then it came. I had the help of a friend. We had a good time learning about subarus.
We also learned that it's a bad idea to leave a plate off of a tranny mount.... they tend to pop off and then the tranny bounces around and everything vibrates and stuff.
I had to do some recon work, jump through cars and dodge traffic to get my rubber bushing back.
It's all fixed now. I'm a dumbass.

I forgot to mention this........
Remember to put anti seize in the dowels BEFORE putting the trans back so it will slide out with no drama next time.
I hope im not too late!
