Everyone can offer their feelings and opinions. I personally do not think gpatmac needed to edit anything at all; not because I don't give a crap about anyone's feelings, but this is a open forum to everyone.

I would think that living in Hawaii we should be the most acceptable of all these racial and ethnic jokes...this is what our community was based on. Think about it...the culture in Hawaii is based on many ethnicities working on sugar plantations. Each shared thier own culture and traditions with others. I'm sure everyone knows this, but I am just trying to bring home the point that if you were born and raised here and if you have lived here long enough, this kind of stuff shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings.

If the joke was switched to be a black person, or hispanic or whatever, I would still think it's funny. ds baruuuuu, 2.5DOHC, poser, Scubaru and I all hang out and tease the crap out of each other and make fun of everyone, regardless of race...we also make fun of each other and others in regards to their race (But let me make this clear...not one of us are racists or have ill feeling to another race to mean it and make it a point in life). It's all meant in fun and like ds baruuuuu said...it's a joke.

Luktang...I can appreciate your insensitivities, but let me say this. Let me ask you this...since I am portuguese and we were hanging out and joking around and I said something stupid, tell me you wouldn't EVER say, "Such a portagee"? Please. If you respond and say that you wouldn't, then either you didn't grow up here or you are lying. Like I said earlier...I can appreciate your feelings, but I highly doubt that you've never told a racial joke or said a racial slang ever in your life. Not to bring religion into this, but "he who hasn't sinned may cast the first stone".

 

Hey, this is supposed to be a funnay ha ha levity-type thread.

I personally think Luktang isn't a bit offended but just played like he was in order to get attention. I could be wrong but probably not. However, though I think that joke was about a .01 on the offensive scale; he stated that it offended him and I've got enough respect for his feelings that I removed it. For all I know, luktang could be of white, black, yellow, brown, and lavender heritage and every ethnic joke known to man is offensive to him.

 

That may very well be true, but until he responds, My last line in my post says it all...

 

First of all, I did not ask anyone to remove anything. gpatmac offered to remove it and I accepted his offer by saying "please remove it." You said this is a open forum, I think I'm entitled to my feelings and opinions without being attacked.

Was it a joke? Really the author of the thread made it out like it's something happened to him in the real life.

Insensitivities? If standing up for my beliefs and fighting for what's right are being insensitive, then this whole country is bulit on insensitivities. I'm full Chinese, and I was NOT born here in the states. I can swear to GOD I never once use "such as portugese" in my entire life. But really, is that an issue at all? Living in Hawaii is not an excuse. Again, if it's a joke... say it's a joke.

Well, as the last word... you say "he who hasn't sinned may cast the first stone" but why are you guys throwing stones at me? Don't tell me not once in your life time you feel angry or mad when you hear that is offensive, regardless of any racial connotation. Don't tell me you are not angry (esp those in the military) hearing anti-war protest and slogans that is disrepectful to the families of the fallen troops. Is it different? Really, when you take out the racial context, the principle is the same. Am I wrong to be irriated? Am I wrong for speaking up? Last time I check this is an open forum.

As for attention seeking, when was the last I posted anything that is offensive or acted like a complete jackass? All I'm guilty of was post whoring, that is it. Do I post new threads every two seconds w/ titles like "oh look at me, i bought new t shirts", etc, etc, etc...??

Anyway, I have a feeling people is going to put "Warning! Disclaimer! Racially Insensitive" signs for their new threads.

You are right...in a way. If some racial connotations are said in a violent, evil, mean manner, then yes...they are wrong. If they are said in that way, then they are meant to cause hurt, harm, and humiliation. That is NOT right. This all started because of a joke. A JOKE. Something that is made up to be funny. There is nothing racially motivated in the sense that it is meant to harm and be mean to asians...it was meant to make people laugh. And the whole part you just said about anti- war protesting...what the hell!?!? Yes, that $hit pisses me off to no end, but just as you are spouting your comments and views, so are the protesters...and they have that right to do so by protesting the very people that allowed them that right. You too have that right because of soldiers (and I know you are not talking bad about soldiers either)

For once and for all...yes it is an open forum. So if it offended you, say your peace and let it go. But you CHOSE to reply, you CHOSE to make it a personal mission of yours to defend. You are correct...it's not right to make fun of other people based on religion, race, disabilities, etc. But if you can't take a f'in joke once in a while and make some, then why bother going thru life so irritated and angry with all that goes on in the world?

Watch Carlos Mencia sometime on Comedy Central. He's the most straightforward comedian out there...he makes fun of all different races and religions and everyone....but does it in a way where everyone doesn't get offended! He'll make fun of mexicans and black people and asians and whites who are in his audience...and they laugh! I'm sure that's what Pat was trying to do.

And for the record...I'm not a bigot, racist or anything of the sort. I know what racism means dude. I was beat up in school as a kid because I was white. I'm tired of everyone whining about insensitivities. A local kid hits a black kid in a school here and the mother calls the action racially motivated. That is bull$hit and so is this. Lighten the fuc k up and get over it.
