wow, you guys have minimums as well? If I were in charge of that maximum would be 55, minimum 55

they lowered the school zone speed limit here in CA from 25 to 15...new signs to go up in 6 months (yeah, when its summer) but it wont matter, cause no one pays attention anyways

OMG, the state is soo poor they can't post a new sign up? If i got pulled over I'd claim that it looks like hoodlums messed with the zero.

And another thing, has anyone noticed that the state ran out of money to repave the roads and highways? They are getting bad everywhere.

I've heard Hawaii asphalt is made up of a lot of lava rock, which is why it's much more brittle then asphalt anywhere else. My uncle works for the city, and thats what he told me.

Still, cant be that hard to overcome that right?

I wonder how that meeting went....."Eh, bra. Da state like lower da speed limit fo da kalihi area of H1"...."So wat? You like us fo make new signs?"..."Na, I know dis one guy at da ala moana sticka shop that can make "0" fo cover da "5's" "

I know were that is, I'm sure they lower the speed limit to set up a speed trap in that area....More income for the state, sad...

Someone should go there at night, rip off the stickers and crank back up the speed limit

Great idea. Do it just before the day of their planned speedtrap.

I say someone (disclaimer: I'm not responsible) change the speed limit to 30, and the minimum to whatever just to freak people out. Then The state will replace the sign, as it looks official without the patch. Oh well, atleast our registration is not like california, $800+ bucks....well after the terminator became governor he cut it in half but geez, $400 for registration.

Maybe if we charged $1000 for registration jackasses would not afford to drive??? I dunno just a thought, as i was almost in two accidents today, one minutes after the other on school street some old lady makes a slow left right in front of me as i laid on the horn. Ahh good brakes saved the day. Then as i was getting on the freeway 2 blocks away, some doofus tries to merge 2 lanes and i lay on the horn again, this time auto-x skills came into play. I tell you Well, I'm glad to make it home safely.

There is no magic to asphalt paving, Hawaii has been using recycled glass for years. The reason that the roads are in such poor shape comes down to one thing: money. In a perfect world, all the roads would be made nice and smooth and those roads would receive a maintenance treatment (even though they LOOK like they don't need it) every 5 - 7 years. This could go on for 20 or more years before the road needed to be rebuilt. But, because there is no money available, no maintenance is done and roads get progressively worse until they have to be rebuilt, at a huge expense. So, we have a downward spiral, where roads don't get proper maintenance because of a lack of funds and what little funds are available get put into 2 or 3 large reconstruction projects.

Things though, are changing and maintenance treatments to extend the life of pavements are being investigated. Concrete pavement, though noisy, is another alternative that lasts longer than asphalt concrete and may be in use more often now that asphalt is so expensive.

If good roads are important, you HAVE to let you elected officials know. Find out the name of your Representative and Senator and send an e-mail or letter. If your elected officials don't know that roads are important to their constituents, they obviously won't fight for additional highway funding. Believe me, your elected officials do listen and would really like to hear what is important to the people in their district.

As for that sign: is that by the Vineyard off-ramp, on H-1 Eastbound (town-bound from Pearl City)?
