I have the insert...it really depends on boost and other mods too.

At stock boost it sounds different definitely but not fluttering.

You can get the insert at Vakamon.

i heard the fluttering isn't a good thing. it doesn't fully release all the air from the turbo, so some of the air goes back into it. i dunno, i just heard that from some where.

To me, the HKS sounds like compressor surge...aka fluttering, but I've got a larger turbo. I'd imagine what Blake is saying is true that at stock boost, it may sound more like dribbling or slobbering.

Nah, seriously the HKS has the fluttering sound but it's because of the way it's designed. The insert is up against a thick rubber grommet and is spring loaded. When you let off the gas, it bounces up and down against the grommmet which makes the unique sound.

Yea everyone up here with a HKS bov and a FMIC has that fluttering effect.

Yeah, My STi has that fluttering effect too. And it's because of that FMIC I've got. I got the BOV before I put on the FMIC, and it never made the sound until I put on the FMIC. However, it the amount it flutters depends on how you are accelerating when you put in the clutch. When I'm at the track, it lets out a loud chirp instead of fluttering because I'm laying into it as hard as I can. But if I'm accelerating gradually, it'll flutter very nicely (especially when going uphill). I like it too, unless I'm trying to not draw attention to myself. It's a very distinctive sound.

The stock TMIC on the STi is pretty efficient w/the stock turbo. If you upgrade to a FMIC w/the stock turbo, expect more turbo lag, (right, Alexis? ).

With heavy mods? for example, what? I believe only when utilizing a really huge turbo will you need to upgrade your TMIC as it will become a restriction.

yea i think when it flutters its realesing just enough boost to open the valve. it happend to me at very low boost or if your in a gear too high and not enough rpms. i could hear it sorta the valve vibrating or clanking back and forward with my windows up and with a exhuast silencer. i have the stock top mount. when it does this u can barely hear any thing except the metal vibration. im guessing outside the car it you can hear the air. i dont have it any more tho, stock feels wayy nicer

Talking

i have a GFB and i get flutter almost all the time under 3200 rpm. then again i have a bigger turbo so that could be ther reason i dunno.....
......as for the flutter being bad, ive heard that alot too, however, i remember when i put my intake on i heard flutter all the time(first mod) so my guess is the flutter i have is the flutter recirculating back threw turbo in instead of people with blow off's that dont use the recirc hose, im guessing the flutter they have is bad......once again this is an opinion of boobie, firewall protected, no flaming haha.
