No AWD dyno here. How is anyone going to have a Protune (unless it was from the mainland)?

Road tune.

I obviously dont live in Hawaii, but I'm running...

GPMoto IC Y-Pipe
Helix Catless UP
Helix Catless DP
Borla Hush CBE
Cobb AP w/ Protune

I'd say get the AP and run the stock map while you buy the other mods you want. I wouldnt suggest putting on parts as you get them because then you'll be running the wrong map. Just get everything you want, put it on, and get a protune done with road tuning...if there is anyone in Hawaii that does road tuning

I don't recommend road tuning unless you have the proper equipment (wideband 02, egt, etc). As cheap as wideband 02s are, I find it funny almost nobody has one, but they have three Defi BFs. Talk to Ryan at Vakamon (593-1303). It will cost you nothing and he tunes UTECs and APs. He'll give you the straight scoop on which is better for you and your goals.

I'm guessing not that loud. I have the Borla Hush CBE and Helix uppipe, but a PDE DP. It was pretty quiet while rolling around town. When you open it up, it gets nice and throaty. I also had my resonator removed from the catback so it's even louder now. It's not loud to the point of irritation, but it's a great sound at an acceptable level.

As for first mods, an AP isn't a bad place to start. As far a my personal opinion goes, the WRX is decently quick right out of the box. If anything, I'd spend that first lump of money on improving those tires (if you still have the RE092s on) or improve the suspension/brake setup.

But if straightline power is your first goal, then yes, the AP isn't a bad place to start. If you're going for a tune, then I'm w/San in recommending Ryan at Vakamon Motorsports. While we don't have an AWD dyno to fine tune our cars, few people can get good results from road tuning, and Ryan is one of those few. I, for one am not going to get much further than an AP as far as engine management goes until we get an AWD dyno. If I'm going to spend big bucks for a tune, I'd want it to be as close to perfect as it can get. Until then, I'm investing in a killer suspension setup

The RE070s that come w/the STi are awesome, especially when hot. They only worry me a bit in the rain. I ran mine down till there was NO tread left.

I was talking to Farid at Vakamon 2 days ago and he said that Christian from Cobb will be coming down here with a driver to do road tunes. Not sure when they coming , but you'll have to have an Accessport in order for them to do a Protune on the road. I think road tunes are good, but dyno would be better. The EVOs on this island, however, have tremendous success w/ Al Friedman's road tunes. Go to www.evo808.com and the first page they have there shows their times. A lot are in the low to mid 12s and one is in the high 11s.

Helix UP/DP with the Borla is semi-quiet when in low RPMs...a lot deeper though. However, when you get on it, its loud

right now i have a turbo xs axle back exhaust but i want to put up pipe and down pipe but i can't have it too loud because my gf's neighbors will complain. i kinda like how it sounds now but it would be nice to have more performance.

You should also go w/a larger diameter midpipe. That will choke up the airflow from your DP to your axle back, thus making that axle back less effective.

forget the neighbors and roll your car in neutral down the road past their house if you feel it is loud

imo, if you don't live with your gf then why should care about her neighbors. now if you live with your gf then yeah there is something you should think about...nah who cares. why, do you come to her place early in the am or very late in the pm? just curious. and i'm not trying to cause any trouble here.
