exhaust manifold AKA HEADERS

Question for those who have them and please also tell me how long installed on the car. Basically who has had problems with cracked headers, and was it wrapped? Please include brands. I am able to get a great deal on a brand new set of ceramic coated ones, but feel that i may opt to not go this option, instead simply skip it, as many have had cracking issues. I'd like opinions from those here locally, but especially those in wetter, humid climates (like windward folks). Would the humidity have adverse effects on longevity of the product?

Hey Chris...

I have had the GT Spec V2 for over two years now...not coated or wrapped...no problems (knock on wood)
I still use my undertray....no unusual corrosion or anything...looks fine.

Daniel has had the Gruppe-S header, jet hot coated for over a year with no problems at all...still looks brand new.

I would definitely get your header coated though...it is incredible how cool Daniel's is compared to mine...literally minutes after arriving at my house, we were able to work around them no problem...wow, what a difference. Mine stays hot for quite a while...

For our side...I would say either leave it as is, or get it coated...I really don't like the idea of wrapping a header...and have it act as an oil wick...I know you are suppose to wrap it, then spray it with an epoxy type of coating...but in my mind...hands down, a coated header is cleaner and more opt to last longer...

4+ years, GT-Spec. I'd skip Jet Hot as they broke my header and they shipped me a new one (uncoated). Wrapped it and cooked the wrap with the stock turbo. I had mine coated at Hi-Tech on the island and they did a great job. Still going strong.

Header

Hey Chris. Is the header for the wagon or the Legacy? I've been playing around with the idea of picking one up too, but the possibility of adding more lag on the 2.0 kinda worries me. I think with the Protune later it may help out though. Just curious which one you were thinking about buying?

Im to thinking of adding headers. Not to sure what brand though is best for the price. I can use any 2.5t header on my car. I wanted the megans but I comes with a welded up pipe and I got one already. Thus I need to consider other brands. Thinking greedy or HKS

Greddy wrapped in DEI heat wrap. I used my own stainless steel wire ties. Had it on since the rebuild, so about year and a half. No fires yet

That's the wrap I fried and it fried far below what an uppipe would extend. As I said, that was on stock header and EGTs were fine. I've considered adding wrap on top of the coating, but I doubt it's worth the effort.

It's for the legacy, i think i'm done playing with the wagon for now.
Plus, i think on the 2.0L motor it's not worth the effort unless you were putting out decent power, or the last thing to do powerwise in the engine bay. I'm looking at the maddad ones. Been looking at them for a while for the wagon, but didn't want to sacrifice any low end torque for unecessary high end torque without a track you know?

Y'know, it will add a lot more noise to a car that you stated you wanted to keep quiet. Just a thought.

Thanks boys, as always i knew i could count on everyone for real advise. Anyone else please share. I think that i will get them coated if i were to get them, Now i gotta decide before the deal ends.

yeah,
Ive about given up on the quiet factor. I tried my best. The rest is in the hand of the "sled gods." So Im getting ready to jump to the dark side of tunning. What header deal you going after?
