STi
--------------
0-60 4.9 seconds
1/4 mile 13.3@103
Braking from 60mph, 111'
EVO
--------------
0-60 4.8 seconds
1/4 mile 13.4@103
Braking from 60mph, 108' (this was their all-time best, winning over the Ferrari Modena)
Overall, they said the EVO handled better on the track, but the STi had a better feel for the street. The EVO came in 1st place with a 591.7/600pts, and the STi did 589.7/600pts. They made it pretty clear these cars are REALLY, REALLY close in performance. They did say that the STi's additional horsepower was noticable on the street. They claimed the reason the EVO won the 0-60 is because the STi requires a 2-3 shift to get to 60mph...
They also tested the SRT-4:
0-60 5.6 secs
1/4 14.2@101.5

Agreed. I thought the STi would be about that fast or a tick quicker. I didn't think the R&T guys would get the Evo down the strip that quickly. Wow. Nice.

P.S. Both of those cars are RIDICULOUSLY quick cars for 4-cylinder, 4-doors that are ~$30k. Amazing.

With how short the gears are Im not surprised, you really run through them quickly which at the track should help, keeping in boost more I would assume. If they didnt have to go 2-3 for the 60 the STi woulda tromped. Still so close...
From the manual, maximum allowable per gear which I would read as redline or pretty close:
1st 25
2nd 55
3rd 73
4th 96
1st 25
2nd 55
3rd 73
4th 96

My 2 cents - Do the numbers really matter?
I know the STi will be compared to the Evo as long as the 2 cars run close in performance and price, but I honestly could care less if the Evo edge's out the Sti or it's the other way around. Some people (I guess people with deposits on STi's) really seem to take it personal when a magazine rates the Evo better.
The only sad part is that some of the STi only reviews (and all that I have read have been very good reviews) seem to get lost in the Evo vs STi war.
From every comparison review I have read both are outstanding performance cars for their price. People will have a preference toward one and that is what they will buy.
So do the numbers really matter when they are that close? Maybe to some, but not to me. The driving experience I get with the STi is what really matters. I'm sure the Evo 8 provides a very similiar experience, but honestly I never even considered the Evo due to personal preference.

)If the 0-60 time is important to those people, ... I'm sure you could pass 60mph and maybe bang off the fun limiter.

People are insecure, I think that's why they get so damn defensive about what some dumb *** magazine has to say.
What I find really funny is, ... that most people can't even f*cking drive to the limit of the cars anyway, so what the hell does it matter??
Give me back my modded rex and I'll spank all their asses!!!

Bone stock WRX's can cross in 3rd gear bouncing off of the rev limiter... Upgraded turbo cars must shift to 4th gear...
