PM San. His username is oldmansan.

I've got unequal but I haven't got my car running yet.

Curious as to what your thought process is behind wanting equal over unequal.

Well from what I have gathered they lower the backpressure allowing better flow cause of the exhaust pulses are seperated. This allows for a quicker spool up. Only bad thing is I hear it takes away from the boxer sound a bit. I think im gonna pick it up, if I dont like it I suppose I could just sell it.

The ones I have heard sounded awful. Like, a fartcan Honda on crack. Not sure what header it was, but it was said to be equal length and the car had an Apexi exhaust. I have heard others say it sounds pretty bad too, but only with a loud exhaust.

I said it before and I said it again about people saying that eq manifold makes your WRX sound "like a honda".

I disagee. I have used over 6 different headers on my car and none of them made my WRX sound like a Honda. Afterall, have any of you ever heard the WRC car? Whoever says it sounds like a Honda have never heard a true equal length headered WRX.

I read somewhere that you will low end torque with equal length header. It is good for top end.

808imprezerRS has them on his car and thibk he is selling his. rs tho. but when talking to him about it he had both un eq and eq headers said that with the un eq u get a much more boxer rumble sound with a little increase in hp and with the eq headers the sound isn't as great tho u do notice ur car to rev faster and also to have more power if ur looking for power go with the eq heads if u want sound and not as much power but better then stock then go with the un eq heads. i have also heard and felt what the car does with both types of heads on so if u try both set ups u will notice a diff. u will probly throw a cel also

I've heard the WRC car in the UK at the WRC. I've heard a number of different cars that were said to have equal length headers. The last one I heard was a silver '04 sedan at a meet right before I came back to HI. It had an equal length (forgot the brand) header, catless dp, and an Apexi system with a similar can to the N1 I had on my GT-4. It sounded like a team of Hondas with fartcans when he got on it and took off. That really loud 'blaaaat' kind of noise. Not anything like my RS w/ a Borla and ScoobySport which to me is the boxer rumble.

For some reason, there is no shortage of loud *** slammed Hondas whipping by my house and most of them have those rediculously loud "gigantic card in spokes" noise which is really close to what that last WRX sounded like to me. Therein lies the comparison. Your results may vary.

I've got equal length headers on my 05 wrx and even without a muffler on, it didn't sound like no Honda. If you are only putting mods on your car for the sound of it, then why even put headers on. The stock one with an up pipe gives the "boxer rumble". If you want it for the performance, get the equal length. If you can't live without the rumble, don't even waste your money on an aftermarket concoction of the stock manifold.

Oh geez. It's important to keep in mind everyone and their opinions are different and most importantly, that's okay. The title of this thread is "EQ length header opinions" so I gave mine. No need to argue it to death.

Great feedback guys thanks! I went ahead and got the header cause from what I have read, on a turbo car you really dont see a loss in low end torque cause backpressure isnt really an issue in that you want it to breathe better as a whole. As far as sound, for one my exhaust is a modified Greddy EVO II midpipe which I used with my EJ25 before I swapped so it is 2.25" its mated upto a 3" PDE DP so im gonna have to up that to 3" cause it is killing the power. The Greddy can is really quiet(for a suby) so we will see how it sounds after I put the EQs on and I get a 3" exhaust. Im not too worried about sound unless it really does sound like a honda in which case I may have to get rid of 'em if the performace isnt right.

Would there will no difference because it's a NA car? Displacement might also be a factor. 2.5l > 2.0l you know. Turbo car might response differently... thx ****.

I can't really say that my car sounds like a fartcan Honda on crack but it did take away the Subaru rumble. My car is quiet with my PDE down pipe and Greddy EVO cat back. I did notice the turbo spooling up quicker.
