Went to get my ECU reflashed and their machine or what ever was broke. I could have it sent off but that would take a week. I was told that what causes the knock or ping was that people were using higher octane gas or octane booster. They said that the ECU learns the higher octane and then if you put 92 in this will cause the knock. When the card from Japan gets in they will do a one time reflash and thats it. Subaru says that this is not under warrenty. All this was told to me. I'm sure you guys know who "they" are. Later

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like yet another case of some dumbass at the Suby dealership who thinks he knows something about WRX/STI's.

I'm in agreement with Pat. Neither the hi-det or lo-det map should knock on 92 octane under most any normal driving condition.

where'd you go?
If you are going for your STi ECU RECALL then it IS covered under warranty!
Bull **** about the gas though it shouldn't matter what type of gas you use... all that matters is that you take car of this champain and fast!

They never said anything to me about it being related to gas you use they didn't know what they were talking about. I talked to Braun at Schuman he never mentioned it. I think that if it wasn't a problem that the car came with they wouldn't be re-flashing our ECU's they know it is their problem that's why the fix is free...OH yea still no caps for my injectors..

the first hit was a short <1 second thing power loss bog thing, and then a second or two later the second hit came and lasted what seemed to be a few(3-ish) seconds long where i was flooring it and the car was deccelerating. i was holding it to the floor for that long with no power. that was after a minute of idling at the start line and spraying the IC.
my gas level was just below half, so that shouldn't be it. i always use my usual 92 shell octane.
temperature after the run was normal.
any ideas? i guess i gotta get a flash huh?
