Is there any where locally I can get a mother board for a Dell Deminsion 4550 P4 the hard drive controller went bad so they and a friend said I need to replace the mother board. Dell has them for $127.00 shipped but if I could get it locally and fix it this weekend....And when it is fixed it will be for sell if anybody is interested. I am going to sell the computer, 17' (16 viewable) ViewSonic monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers for $400 or $300 the way it is but I'd rather fix it and have it operatoring correctly first. Has Win XP Pro, Win XP office, 90g worth of HD (60 Western Dig & 30g Maxtor), only 256m of memory, 2004 Norton System works, Black Ice and some other programs. Still have dell box.

 

I am not sure who Dell contracts here in Hawaii to do their on site service.

Dell will usually send the part the to the owner of the computer and if need be schedule a time for the tech to show up and install part.

 

I am going ot have to install it due to my warrenty is expired I guess I'll just order it and install it...

 

You could just get a IDE controller card, and have the card manage the hdds. Its a cheaper alternative to buying a new MB. I know some people that have done this, and its mixed results. For some everything worked fine, and for others the system was not very stable.

Controller cards are on the average about $20 - $30 depending on who made it and what it can do.

Hard to say if it was a problem with the card. I have run into a few times when certain brands of cards, just don't work with certain brands of motherboards.

If you want drop by PTC with your computer, and I can try testing the controller cards we have in stock.

 

That would be cool where is the store at?? Are you open on Saturday..If so i'd like to bring it down ASAP..

 

Its right next to CompUSA in town. Just look for a black WRX parked on the street. Its usually parked right in front of the store.

We are open on saturday, but I am not working. I am working tonight from 5:30pm - 9:00pm. If you can bring it by tonight (friday) trying bringing it before 8pm, that would be great. I'll pm you my number.
