Talking Defi gauges installation.

I haved gone over the manual and notice the procedures to installing these gauges are more complex than installing autometer gauges(i.e. boost and air fuel) on my previous ride. So does anyone have already installed these gauges:Oil temp and Oil Pressure on their ride. Need help installing. If not, I was thinking of going to a local dealership/race shop to get it installed. Let me know

THanks,

I did all my gauges, although I had Ryan at Vakamon drill and tap my water reservoir for water temp. You'll need an adapter from Subaru for the front gallery plug (near the tmic) to accomodate oil temp or pressure (I recommend pressure). Do a search on NASIOC for the part number. The other plug is under the alternator and you'll lose your stock oil pressure "idiot" light. The rest of the physical install depends on how cocky you are, where you want the gauges located, and how much time/effort you're willing to expend.

It took me some time, but I pulled a lot of interior pieces and sanded/painted them all black to match. Center radio/ac piece, cupholder area, ac vent areas, S-AFC, AVC-R, etc. It wouldn't take too long for a "normal" install, but my installs tend to be a bit "abnormal".

Thats ok Junior as long as nothing gets damaged!!hahahah... Will take some pics for you guys and especially for your brent. Will take pics of where to connect the Oil temp and Oil pressure gauges. Now I have to find out normal Oil pressure and Oil temp for my stock engine. See you guys later..

By the way San. Not quite sure which gauge you have, Oil temp or Oil pressure. I wanted to ask you at what temperature do you set you Oil temp warning light to come on and the control unit starts to have that buzzing sound or same question but for Oil pressure?

I have been taking baseline temps of oil and water to compare before and after installation of an aftermarket oil cooler w/ thermostat, and an aftermarket radiator and cool thermostat. I'm going to see which (or both) make a significant difference so others can make a more educated decision as to which (or both) they should purchase. After some "spirited" driving;

EGT 820
Boost 1.22 X 100kpa
Oil temp 102
Water temp 90
Oil pressure 8+ X 100kpa
Rpm max 6775

All values are metric.

I'll see what happens after oil cooler install, and then after that, radiator, hoses, radiator plate, and cool thermostat. It's a bit warmer now than when I baselined, but it shouldn't make a big difference.

Comparisons of baseline oil pressure from mines to yours is similiar. But my oil temperature is different. My baseline temp on highway is 210-215 F and when on the freeway doing like 60mph. My oil temp readings goes up to 215- 221 F. Ive searched scoobymods.com and seen couple guys oil temp reading at 210-220 F. So what do you think about this in comparison to your data. Oh by the way, do you think not changing oil could be a factor in my temp reading in comparisons to yours.?Never had a chance to change oil and now im at 6300 miles without changing oil.

Thanks You San,
Walter

As I said, all readings are metric. 102 C = 215 F. Bear in mind that was my max oil temp after hard driving. Normal highway cruising wouldn't be as high. You also have to consider where you tapped for your temperature sensors, as well as car differences, oil differences (Redline 5W-30 here), etc.

Sorry San, I didnt know how to do conversion units. Tried to look it up in those black and white notebooks but couldnt find any. Well Im planning to do a one week research survey. As soon as I change my oil, I will start the report and take into considerations different factors. I will let you know when Im done and post it for you and all to see. Going to change oil using mobil 1, then at next oil change using redline, then at next oil change, use amsoil or castrol gtx.

But thank you very much San. your help and guidance taught me something!!!

Deep Appreciation,
Walter
