CV Boot??


I was inspecting my under car and find this problem. What is it? How much it cost for part? Can I fix on a lift with common tools

yes these do go and i would say on a scale of 1-10 i would say its a 4 if that to replace.

the best thing to do is go to napa or o'reilys and ask them for the axle replacement for the side you want. it will cost between 70-100 bucks plus core fee (you will get your core fee back when you give them your old one) the axles come with new cv boots on them and is much easier to change then just the cv boot.

Also looking at the pictures, i see your missing a stud for the downpipe to turbo. might wanna look into getting that fixed also cause exhaust leaks can cause a slight decrease in power especially since that is pre o2 sensor

Well being as broke as I am I bought just the boot online for a cool $15. Next question.....What is the lubricant that was in it that I need to replace

-KY jelly
-Lotion
-WD-40
-Baby oil

yes that is the cheaper way but it will now be the harder way. make sure you have the right tools to take apart the cv boot and also to lock the boot to the axle. GL

If you don't know what you're doing with your axles or what even is involved with the axle servicing then instead of it being a 4 it becomes a 7 for most. If you bought cheap **** expect to have to continue to buy piece after piece. This job takes 1 hour from start to finish. not complicated at all if and only if you're mechanically inclined. If you're not pay someone to do it for you. All the after market parts on your car and only now you're finding out about them? You may want to check your outer CV boot on that same axle. That boot that is shown that's damaged is the only side you'll need to replace as long as the outer isn't damaged as well.

I recommend buying OEM boot kits because they come with all snap rings (yes you will need to deal with snap rings), grease, bands. The bands on the OEM one are cut to correct length already. If you have a damaged outer (wheel side) you will need to replace BOTH inner and outer.

...don't want to sound like a newb hater, but have you searched for diy/tutorials? they're out there, and may give you a better idea of what you're up against...in the end, there's some things that are worth paying for...good luck

Its easier to R&R a part as opposed to pull it apart and have to rebuild it
