Cross-Country Journey Update: Stage 1

Well, I made it to MN in a day and a half. That includes two short stops for rest, so I consider myself poopy-tired . We left the airport parking lot (A MAZE!) at 6:00pm PST on Friday night. We stopped in Cedar City Utah at 2:00 am (Mountain or Pacific... not sure) and crashed for a couple of hours. By 8:00 am we had eaten breakfast were on the road again.

We did not stop driving for more than meals and gas until 3:30pm in Denver. We had dinner at an outelt mall, and I bought some non-stinky clothes to wear (All my clothes were in the HUGE bag that I didn't want to fight with). We left about 5:30pm and stopped at a rest stop outside of Omaha at about 2:00am Sunday morning.

We woke up about 5, ate breakfast and got gas in Sioux City, IA between 7 and 8, and pulled into Sleepy Eye, MN at about 11 CST Sunday Morning.

A total of 39 hours (subtracting the two hour time change) to go roughly 1500 miles.

All in all it was a pretty uneventful trip. I discovered that I had air in my brakelines early enoughto prevent some disasters (just needed a single pump to get brakes back) but not soon enough to prevent my Emergency Brake light from semi-permanently illuminating my dash light. The brakes are getting bled today.

I got my car picked up for me by All State Auto Delivery. It was a great deal at ~$100, but two things really irked me. 1.) I specifically asked for 91 Octane premium, and I KNOW I did not get it. I'd never had non-premium gas in my car, and it SUCKS ***! It's really bad when you have a 93 Octane map... They also took my cigar punch from my keychain. I have yet to call and talk to them, but I will.

75 MPH speed limits are AWESOME! Probably cut 5-7 hours off my total trip.

My wife is a great person to drive with. She keeps you company with endless chatter, even when she is DEAD tired and pregnant. She kept me awake for the last couple of hours in Nebraska.

Last thing. to Officer Coover of the Nebraska State Highway Patrol. 82 in a 75 is not a crime. I would have been happier if you had just said, "I'm being an *******" and handed me the ticket instead of giving me the BS line "We have a no tolerance policy since the speed limit increases" line. The other nine cops I passed in Nebraska that day didn't seem to mind, and the cop I tailed at 85 through Colorado seemed just as irritated as me with slow drivers. You are a discredit to your profession and to the state of Nebraska.

Subbie Count

California
I saw a black WRX Wagon right outside of LAX. A bunch on freeways 105, 110, 10, and 15.

Nevada
None that I remember

Utah
None that I remember

Colorado
I saw an 04 Wagon going into the Mall (black)
I paced an 02-03 Blue wagon down I-70. 30-40yr old lady who seemed kind of perturbed with my frantic waving
02-03 Sedan (blue) in the parking lot ofthe mall
3 (red, yellow, and black) sedans on I-70 West of Denver
INNUMERABLE LEGACY'S AND OUTBACKS
I've decided that Colorado is the land of the Subaru. They were EVERYWHERE.

Nebraska
None that Iremember (all of Nebraska was at night, thank God)

Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota
None. But boy do I get the looks on the backroads of Minnesota! People stare all the time. Also, My house is now an extension of the cruising strip here in Sleepy Eye.

Last night I was out washing and waxing my car, and a couple of cars kept driving by and one or two even revved their engines... funny. I haven't even taken the exhaust silncer out, yet.

Sounds like a you got a ticket for driving "82 in a 75 with Out of state plates". Happens to most cross country motorists. Officer Quifer.

That's what I thought, too. I can either show up to court on September 10th in Azzcrack, NE or admit fault. Since I'll be in Poopstain, GA then, I'm screwed. $66 for the "privilege" of driving through Nebrasska. Poopy.

I'm starting to pick up on your poop fetish that I don't recall about you before.

Isn't it amazing to come from the land of the import and then find yourself in the land of the domestic and the compact. Same here in the Tri-state area. I am not travelling that much, but everywhere I've been, I've seen like 1 WRX and 50 Legacies, L's, and RS's.

I miss home so much. Be back there in a little over 48 hours.

WRX_FLIP,

Sorry about not getting back to you the night we met you at Chili's. I ran into Ditchahnger at Checker's and after about 45 minutes of BS'ing I had to get back to Chili's to have last drinks with my friend and his wife. After that I was a little less than sober. Chili's Margaritas are HUGE! 3 of them made me tipsy like a 17 yr old cheerleader... don't read into that.

This is a long way of saying sorry for not calling you back.
Good luck to you and your wife
-Greg
