College Questions

Heres my situation...
I am looking at colleges and would like to find out about the University of Hawaii. Right now I live in Denver and really want to get out of here. I have very good grades and good test scores and the profession i am looking into is architecture. I have been interested in it since I was 10 years old and am pretty good at it. So, when i searched for architecture schools, Hawaii came up as one of the top schools in the nation and it is a docters degree and includes some really neat oprotunities that others dont. Anyways, heres what i want to know...
1. This is for anyone who has graduated their architecture program: Is it worth the cost and how were the job opprotunites afterwards? I would think with the docters degree you would be better off than just a bachlors. Also, did u like the coriculum? was it interesting?
2. What are the food/car/everything else costs in Hawaii?
3. Is University Of Hawaii a fun (party) school at all?
Anyways, i got to go so i will probably put more questions up later.

1. Don't know personally.

2. More expensive than you could imagine.

3. From my point of view, no.

I have looked into the architectural degrees here and have found that they will focus in Asian design, or styling. That's good if you want to work out this direction, or in Asia somewhere. Probably not so good if you want to work back east, ... or is it west?
OR, you could look at it as experience/exposure to different design ideas.

1. Know a few architecture students...they said its okay.

2. Everything costs more in Hawaii.

3. It can be fun off campus, but not a party school.

Univ of Hawaii is one of the better Engineering schools in the nation. You would get a great education here. However the cost of living as mentioned by others is rather high. And I'm not up to date on the out of state tuition rates, but I bet it's not that great

Good luck in your choices.

UH is definitly not a party school. Well there are parties, but most of the time they're kinda lame.

i recently graduated from UH in engineering. i have to say that it is on the decline. when i started it was in the top 30 engineering schools, but now i've heard they may not be accredited, which makes the degree worth s***.

don't know how architecture is, but like i said earlier, the people i know said its "okay." as for tuition, i believe its $1600 for in-state. i'm not sure what out-of-state tuition is. its been going up every semester for the past year.

I have heard lots of bad things about the architecture school. I also know a guy who teaches there who is one of the smarter people I know. I have known a few people who studied there, and the concensus is that you will learn the artistic side, but not the technical side. My friends sister graduated from there and designed a carport that had no load bearing structures?? That's pretty basic stuff to not know how to do.

Do some real research, though, not just on I-club.

As for engineering, I have heard rumors about accredtidation probs. mostly due to grade inflation, and other similar issues.

There are lots of good programs at UH, but you have to go out of your way to find em.

Good Luck,
Will

1. cost is not worth it. job oppurtinities: how much could there be on an already over populated island?
2. living expenses are WAY too much.
3. UH is not your typical college state which would include tons of frats, more than one college in the same campus, and not as big as those on the mainland U.S.

UH is funny in some ways... They will not take credits from the likes of Univ of WA, UCLA, and more... Something about the course numbers not matching up? My ex ran into that when we both moved back here.

sausage fest and most of the people that go to UH are lame in general. 70% of the people that go there are the kinda of people I would have beaten up for fun back in HS.
