Cobb Access Port V3

What's up guys, been getting a lot of mixed feelings about the Cobb AP v3. For my build, I'm not planning on going crazy 500hp(where are you gonna go on the island? To each his own though). For my setup ATM I've got a full catless exhaust and HKS BoV. I'm deciding between getting a tune for the mods I already have or just getting the AP, anyone with a tune or AP I'd like some feedback on what you think. It would be very helpful. Mahalo for your time! -Josh

You should be getting a tune even if you purchase the AP. Don't use the OTS maps.

Also, you should not be running those mods without a tune in the 1st place.

A lot of people say I wouldn't need a tune with those mods as long as I'm not red lining, however I'm concerned about boost creep. I was informed AMS tuning comes down twice a year but other then that I haven't been recommended to any local shops who are reputable to tune.

ams tuned my wrx in feb and will tune again in august. a custom tune vs an off the shelf map is night and day. the custom tune feels like the car was meant for it. its money well spent.

when you say full catless exhaust do u mean full catless tbe? cause if its just your exhaust u definitely wont need a tune. if you have a dp then you're gonna wanna get a tune, but u can run the OTS maps in the mean time but try not to do any hard driving until then

Curious, how much does AMS charge for the tune, plus dyno rent at Rads? Yes I mean full cbe including catless Invidia DP. I heard the OTS maps run 91, 93 and we don't have 93 here in Oahu so id have to settle with a 91 and that map won't give me the full potential of the mods.

AMS is a little pricier but you're dealing with a person whose only job is to tune cars (mostly subis/evos/etc). You wanna go with the most reliable tune, not just the fastest. you'll have to run the 91 map, correct, but again; you're only gonna run it temporarily until you can get yourself a real tune so you shouldn't mind how fast it is per se.

you'll need the access port for him to tune it. but the dyno is 120 and the tune is like 300something. but i have a custom map for my car, 92 octane fuel and 18.5psi from 2900-7200. seriously though, the tune is worth it and chris black knows these cars better than just about everyone

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Probably won't have enough for the tune when he comes down because I want to replace my ripped motor mounts first then I'll buy the AP. I'll have to run the Ots map for 91 octane until he comes back down but I'm fine with that.

I have recently flashed to Stage 1 91 OTS map (normal wg/92 octane) with an APEXi airbox drop-in, Nameless catback, and Perrin AOS. At WOT, my datalogs show knock activity is absolutely 0 (only -1.4° feedback knock when falsely read by very low load gear shifts or sudden imperfections in Hawaii's crappy roads), DAM is always at 1, and A/F Learning has very little to no drastic changes. Running just slightly over target boost. More than happy with how the car feels. Here are both S (14psi) and S# (17psi) logs.

Thanks for the post and info joe! Devilz, why would that be? I know the trans is practically made out of "glass" but is it really that bad?

You shouldn't even be driving in boost with those mods w/o tuning.

You need a tune, you're running an engine management system not setup for the miss in your car and can be running to lean or rich.

^^Agreed. For what mods the OP has, he definitely needs a tune. Especially with the DP.

Some have gotten away with just stage 2 OTS but its better to have a custom map.
