Check this crap out!

I can't explain it. I always thought that for whatever reason (my tune, my shoddy work which could've lead to leaky injectors or fuel pump, my driving habits....) I always got like 16-17mpg when I lived on Oahu.

I just went and got my car today at Pontoon Beach, Illinois (a St Louis suburb...and no I didn't visit Axis....I wish!) 221 miles.

25mpg!!!!!! On ninety THREE octane pump.

Man, I forgot what that turbo is all about.

25mpg is fantastic indeed!
I have to drive like a grandma once in a while just so I can average out 19-20mpg on 91 octane here in Hilo.
Does anyone have a list of mods that will both boost power (even if sleightly) and return better mileage? From what I've been reading the past several months, it sounds like a K&N filter, less restrictive exhaust (but I don't like really loud), and a Cobb AP would all work together very well as far as making the car run a little stronger with better mileage.

If'n you wanna know what I did, I've got a UTEC, STI block, WRX heads, FP Green turbo, I hacked the stock WRX injectors to where I think they're pushing around 830 cc/min (If'n I get on it), catless exhaust, greddy airnx. Oh yeah, and a Japanese v7 sti trans w/o dccd which causes my engine speed to be 3500 @ 70mph. Wonder what I would have gotten if I'd have gone 65mph and didn't get all froggy when I got home, showing off to the ricers.j/k.

I think either something's wrong with my calculations, or I need to drive everywhere I go via highway @ 72 mph. (oh yeah, and the folks mostly stay in the right lane unless they're passing.

I'm fricken beat.

My next project has to be to put away all my pipe dreams for h20/alc injection/ported heads/external wg...and focus on why I've got so much oil coming from my PCV, dogdamit.

You know, a note about what I said about showing off to the ricers. I can still say that I've never really been revved on in my Grandma's Grocery Getter, but tonight being Friday, when I got to Bloomington (pop 70k), I guess the sound of my exhaust caused one guy to almost lose control in overtaking me around a chicane on College st. It also caused a cop to be dead smack in my mirror as I was at the light near my house. He promptly pulled away, but message sent. I was honestly going no more than 35 mph in a 30 the entire time.

I'm getting unwanted attention.

No fluke atall. After a mix of city/highway driving, my tank was 1/3 full. When I did the calculations, I got 20.8mpg.

As a note (for the UTEC users), I have those hacked stock injectors and my injector scaling is set to 750 cc/min. I had checked my maps and the one that I had worked so hard on as far as tuning my zero column for long-term/short-term fuel trims wasn't loaded. I had driven home from Illinois on the map where the zero column was set to all zeros. I switched maps to the one that I had tuned and it drove pretty crappy, so I switched it back to the zero'd out map and voila, smooth running again.

Also, on the way home from work today, I had to pass a tractor and when I did, I heard that 'can of pebbles' coming from the vicinity of the top of my pistons. I had swapped in an MBC prior to deploying to AFG, but was never able to figure it out. I couldn't set it to boost any LOWER than 20 psi in a 1st-4th WOT pull. I swapped it back out today in order to reinstall the ABC that comes with the UTEC (prior to the MBC, I have always been on the UTEC for boost control) and now I'm peaking at 18psi w/ no knock, on 93 octane.

The trick is, I'm really choking the FP Green by having the boost set so low. I need to buy some nice Ethanol or C16 and turn up the wick. I'm hearing that some kids up in Indianapolis may possibly have a tract of private land where they are holding some LEGAL street/drag racing. I may just have to pay them a visit.

I wish I could get 16-17mpg. Right now the S4 is getting around 12-14mpg.
