Cell phone probs...
Ok... i sure i'm probably screwed but jus wanted to verify..
My ancient (2-3yr old) samsung phone (SCH 8500) decided to crap out today... and was wondering if there's some way retrieve my phone book.
I used the phone last nite... and didn't drop it or get it wet. Jus ur basic abused phone... The buttons aren't operating like they should.. no reaction when i press anything.. can't call out or answer calls. I see calls coming in.. no sounds at all, tho.
I know i'm screwed, but jus crying out in case someone has an idea. Be sure to write down numbers somewhere ! Also, u know how phones can be used as planners? ...now i lost my appointments, too !
Have a good day guys

I used to have that phone too. You are going through Sprint, right?
I know that they can attempt to transfer the information on your phone to a another Sprint phone. I am not sure on the details of what they do though.
I may still have my SCH 8500 in a box somewhere, if I find it you can have it.
It can be a donor phone so that can use it for parts to get your phone working.

if its sprint then they should be able to back up your data. just take it down to the sprint store, there is a service center and they can transfer your phone book for you to another phone. it will probably have to be a another samsung phone though.

Sanyo phones ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been with Sprint for Years! I had that same phone (Samsung 8500), that thing SUCKS!! I Really didn't realize it until I got a new phone! I've got the Sanyo 8100 now, this thing is great, so worth the money! And it's on sale (or it was).
Also, I've got two 8500's lying on my dresser if you want to try and use one.
oh yeah, NEXTEL sucks!
My Sprint service hasn't always been the best, but it's been pretty good, and has only gotten better. Plus with the plans they have now, you can't go wrong (unlimited sprint to sprint, 2000 anytime, unlimited nights/weekends that start at 7, etc).

if you want i (sean) could take a look at it. =)
I used to work at AT&T wireless for the last five years. I ripped apart all kinds of phones. Most times you can sort of put em back together and get your numbers out. I helped many a panic-stricken guy get his little black book out of a dying phone.
Let me know ahead of time so i can grab my tools. Hopefully sprint phones automatically download info to your sim card. Some phones need to be configured first.
On another note, Nokia has always been the most user friendly phone manufacturer around. Motorola is great but confuses the crap out of me. Sony-Ericsson is pretty good now that sony is on board. Panasonic phones are pretty good too but suffer from short battery life unless you buy the extended batt. Siemens phones seem pretty good overall once you get used to their menu. I got out of the cell-phone industry cause it was driving me nucking futs! hahahaha

been w/sprint for a little over a year now. they have been good and my plan has gotten even better since i renewed. had at&t wireless before and had a very bad experience with them. i have a pretty good plan although i wish i had a little more anytime mins but i can't complain. 300 anytime, unlimited 8pm nights, unlimited weekend, unlimited vision(internet), unlimited PCS to PCS, free long distance and no roaming on Sprint's network. all for $40 a month. also 50 free min. long distance on the land line per month as long as i have Sprint as my long distance carrier at home and Sprint PCS. Now with the # portability in effect, some great deals can be had as the wireless companies don't want to lose your business.

SE phones are crappy, very bad reception on the GSM network and their keylock has a very bad design. But they have by far the best battery life. I thought it was only my problem until I talked with the reps from both ATTWS and T-Mobile(now that thats part of my new job). I'd wait until their Z300/Z600(clamshell) to come out...meanwhile theres a new phone from Motorola called the V300 which is very nice.
BTT: I would call Samsung tech support if its not a GSM phone with a SIM card.
