i was on my way home from costco today and this gts took off i was stuck behind some cars but got behind him. i heard him down shift and i stayed in 5th. i could of downed it too but i decided not to cause i stayed with him. it wasn't a full on race. cause i was just keeping up chilling. i know i would of had a hard time over taking him. but i dont' know how they run at 100%.

i also raced one up tantalus a long time ago. he couldn't out run me on the twisties wich made me happy.

i know that the rs is not the fastest car out there. but what i am really wanting to know is car to car how does the 2.5 rs compare to the new style celica gt-s.

top end, low end, handeling, and what not.

 

they get their peak power at 6,000 rpm when their vvti kicks in, thats kinda late imo.

 

I never had a problem with them.
However they have higher PEAK HP and less weight.
From a stop they have no prayer.

never checked out my friend's 03 GTS yet but from what i hear (my friend is a service manager at toyota) the low end really sucks but when the second cam kicks in the power really picks up and kicks you back in your seat.

okay aittle overstated but it is something you can noticeably feel

 

said the gearing was the biggest problem. When you get into the sweet spot rpm-wise, when you shift into the next gear you're out of it.

There was this celica gts that always 'challenging' me out on the freeway whenever i went home from work(oh boy Joey is not going to like this post) . I can always out accelarate him but my top speed limiter always held me from out running him at the top . Before leaving me, we would wave me out with the hand gesture and shook his head. Many times that we would end up meeting again just to fall in the same ritual, but i never gave up and I have a lot of faith on my RS to out run him, unfortunately my RS just couldn't. Well, a few months ago after the wrx transplant in to my RS, we met again. Hahaha! this time I look staight in his eyes, smiled and waved him bye. He tried but the gts just couldn't. He never bother me ever sinced then. Dame! i wish I had this car in high school- J/K!

 

a few days after that I recognized his car at the dodge dealership used lot SRT?!!!

 

what year is your rs? and where does your top speed cut out?

 

2000rs - i cut off around 120 at 4th gear 6500rpm

 

WOW killer you hit 120mph racing, was this common for you two? oh and you hit the rev limiter. what happens if u shift to fifth?
