Can a subaru be stolen

a friend of mines had his subaru stolen and the insurance company said that it was an inside job. The insurance company said that the car has a smart chip so that if the ignition is broken it wont start is this true or are they just bull****ting him. Or what would a thief have had to do to steal the car.

what would be the ways our cars could get stolen. They could just use a flat head and break the lock and ignition right that would work.

My WRX doesn't have a "smart chip" in the key.

My friend's Lexus has a "smart chip" in his key and it was stolen.

Boom's right. Any car can be stolen.

Stolen car

I read on SpeedHawaii about a guy's car getting stolen and the cops found it It was being stolen with a tow truck so any car can be stolen just depends on how bad they want it..

people can get smart chips. such as service dealershipswho can order them. someone probably was able to get the hold of the key by the car's serial number. depending on the car some are harder to get like the european cars.
