I ordered a refurbished one off Ebay...$200 shipped...came with all o-rings and an evaporator...awesome deal...
I would not buy a used one...you'll just have the same issue you are having now soon...
Power steering pumps also seem to go out on our cars around 85,xxx miles along with the plastic ended radiators...just a heads up. (04 STI...)
Mishimoto and Koyo Radiators are a definite must when replacing out the junk plastic ended OEM spec ones...

some hints...when replacing AC Compressor
I was going to do the "oops" the freon just came out method.
I did the right thing...I took my car to:
Tony's Auto Air
1016 Artesian St
Honolulu, HI 96826
(808) 955-0866
Great honest guy...
1. He evacuated my system. Recovered the Freon.
2. I replaced out the Compressor (easy)
3. He evacuated the system again, and refilled it with Freon.
He did not charge me for the freon since he recovered all of it prior.
Subaru would have charged me around $1400-$1600
I put in $200 for the compressor +$180 for the evacuation/recharge of the freon. I would not recommend you get one of those "Walmart" kits...you need to ensure that you put the right amount of freon back into the system. My dad had an appliance repair service and we recharged refrigerators/freezers with the precise amount of freon for correct operation...
