BOV and your thoughts?

Hey guys,
Im pretty new here and wanted to know your thoughts on a BOV. Do you think its worth the money or its better to spend it on something else. I think the sound is kinda cool...but im not sure if i will get sick of it. any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did you have any problems with it? I keep reading how it can degrade performance...and actually hurt your car more then anything else. anyone ever experience any of this?

if you get one that vents to the atmosphere, then your car will pig rich when you shift because the mass air sensor is seeing air go past it, but it's getting released from the intake tract into the atmosphere. the computer sees all that air and puts in the according amount of fuel and when you've got lots of fuel and not very much air, well, i think you can figure out the rest. basically your car will stumble when you shift and not run well when you let off the throttle abruptly (ie whenever that BOV cracks open hard.). so unless you HAVE to have that sound, and especially if you want a performance mod, skip the BOV. and TFATF for that matter.

I did a search and stole that from one of the replys about BOV. I just wanted to know if anyone had any bad experiences with um.

Everyone has their opinion on BOVs. It's an easy mod that can be done in minutes and the real satisfaction is the noise. Personally I don't think it adds any hp, and while it shouldn't hurt anything you do have to be careful if your car is tuned. As an example if I were to throw a BOV on my WRX Wagon which has an ECUTEK reflashed ECU, it could potentially cause problems (knock, det, etc....).

I think the stock ECU is pretty accepting of mods and though the STi ECU is different it's probably just as accepting.

Probably why so many do it. Cheap, quick and you actually hear something with your mod. Only reason in the beginning I wanted to do it. I guess with other mods you can feel more power, better handling, better stopping, but the bov seems popular for the quick satisfaction...

I guess if it doesnt hurt performance what the heck... Didnt Pat put one on and feel a bit smoother boost or something at the track?

Yup, that's my opinion. Seems to maintain boost between shifts better which seems to cause a smoother shift.

It does get to be a little tedious when the car is in 'daily driver' mode, though.

Yeah I think after about 15 minutes of PSSSSSSSTTTTTTT over and over I would be over the desire to have one, maybe that adjustable one or something...

Another thing to keep in mind if you AutoX or plan to is that a BOV will put your right into SM and trust me, there is a lot of very good people driving in SM now. I'm lucky if I get a point or two each month. Looking forward to running in a stock class (AS if the rumours are true).

850, broken in later today. Me too, been dipping into the 4s consistently. Still getting used to throttling during turns, crank the dccd to the rear and it helps a bit...
