Big Island versus Kauai

Okay I am taking 5 days off next week and either going to the Big Island or Kauai. I have briefly been to the big island. I lived there on top of a mountain for a month, but only got two days in Kona, and never got to see anything cool. I have never been to Kauai, so what should I do there. Give me some advice please!

It's spelled Kauai

More stuff on BI (water sports, adventure stuff, better hotels, volcanoes) than there is on Kauai.

Kauai is better for the scenery and nature though. They have this great huge valley/gulch whatever it is...looks like a HI version of the grand canyon yet not so grand but still a canyon.

If you like the beach, go to kauai.

BI is a lot of lava => not so many white sand beaches.

Depends what you wanna do. I'm from Hilo and have visited Kauai a few times. I dunno if its just me being biased cuz I'm from there, but I'd prefer to go to the Big Isle. Yes, there is more to do there and there are some pretty good drives, great scenery, nice long roads, all kinds of tourist stuff (volcanoes, lava tubes, craters, calderas, waterfalls,) and there is actually somewhat of a night life if you know where to go in Hilo and in Kona.

i'd say big island. Ship your car for the few days you come here and have fun. Its nice to see new rexes or rex enthusiasts out this side. Night life is mellow.. but there are some ragers once in a while. The drives are awesome. Saddle road going full tilt is crazy. I did 105 with a Tacoma at the top so imagine what a rex could do. I know i'm dumb but that was when I was young. Just imagine this... all the islands put together equals the big isle. But I really want to go see Kauai.

Okay, but I'd be renting a car. I'm just going for 5 days.

****Napali Coast****

I've been there a few times and I love the slower pace of Kauai. I like to hike so I spent time on the trails walking the Napali coast. And if you are cruzn' with a chick, great spots to get down over there. Poiipu (SP?) also has good snorkeling and there is this river you can canoe up and hit some cool spots.

Well I don't have a chick to cruise with unless there is a chance of meeting one on the trip. Either way that is not what I am basing my desision on.
